How long would it take you to love a monster? This wasn't something you hadn't wondered much about before you had been kidnapped. One night when you were with your friends gathered in a circle that question came up: "how long would it take for you to develop Stockholm syndrome?" You all went in a circle stating your conditions and joking that it would only take two to three weeks. That innocent conversation seemed silly at the time, but now you were convinced it was the universe toying with you.
You worked at a coffee shop almost all day. Being the most trusted employee certainly had its perks, just not when it came to hours. You constantly covered for your co-workers with a soft sigh and nothing else. This might have been what caught the eye of your kidnapper; your kindness, your patience, how much of a pushover you are. You couldn't be sure what it was, not unless you asked him yourself but you would never do that.
That day you arrived to work, you were already tired from the late shift the night before. Your usual customer came in adorning his signature plain black face mask, you didn't mind though. That day seemed different though, he seemed to be watching you a bit more than normal, his gaze would linger on you far too long. You brushed it off as a customer with a crush on you, that was rational and easy to deal with. When a customer spilt coffee on you, you smiled kindly and instantly felt their frustration and embarrassment. You made them a new drink (on the house) and sent them on their way. That was the problem with an emotion-based quirk such as yours, you felt all of the negative emotions surging off of others and could brighten them. Just a touch of your finger could alter their entire mood. Maybe that was what made you catch his eye... Either way, you couldn't change what had happened; You were kidnapped.
You were frightened at first, thinking of the absolute worst-case scenario. But when your captor explained you were there to watch a child, you were beyond baffled. This former yakuza kidnapped you to become a nanny? How strange... And yet it held up. He never made you do anything more than watch this girl, Eri. Was that when you first started caring for him? Was it when he didn't expect you to pick up anybody else's slack? You couldn't be sure. He did some horrible things to her, Eri had told you once. When you brought it up to Him, he only got angry before getting quiet. He destroyed the wall that night before rebuilding it, frightening you in the process. His quirk was so amazing and yet it was so dangerous. You couldn't help but feel the contradicting emotions coming off of him. Maybe it was then that you began to care for him.
You two shared a room together because he didn't like leaving you alone, knowing how his yakuza could think at times. Not to mention, he knew how your quirk worked and how persuasive you could be if you tried. He didn't want anyone to mess up and let you escape. Whenever he was busy working, you were locked in a room with Eri to watch her. He would then retrieve you at the end of the day and bring you to your shared room to shower, then to dinner, then shower again, then go to bed before waking up to shower another time before starting the day. He hated germs but you didn't mind all the extra showers, you didn't pay the water bill or make the rules. Your skin often felt dry but one mention of it to Him and you would get some very expensive lotion. He took care of you. That might've been what made it happen.
You were in your fourth month being the captive of Kai Chisaki, but you didn't know this; it felt much longer than four months.
You sat on the chair in front of the vanity and brushed your hair out as you waited for Kai to finish in the shower. The door opened and out walked the man himself with a towel wrapped around his waist. You two had gotten comfortable around each other and you were very thankful you didn't have to deal with his awkward stares anymore.
"How was your day today?" You politely asked, like you usually do.
"Fine, I got a lot of work done." He answered, reaching into his side of the dresser for clothes.
"Was that why those strange people were here? The one with the blue hair... something was off about him." You frowned slightly, looking down at your hands.
"What felt off about him? Explain it to me." He instantly walked over and looked down at your sitting form.
"It's nothing." You shook your head softly, refusing to meet his eyes.
"Your quirk is very helpful, did you know that? Tell me, what felt off about them?" He gently touched your chin with his index finger. Your heartbeat quickened despite him wearing gloves.
"Deceit. This emotion is something between anger and happiness, just to the left of revenge. Their hate for you was so strong, it was suffocating." You wrapped your arms around yourself as soon as he pulled his hand away from you.
"I know." He spoke with a sigh.
"What are you going to do with them? What will happen to Eri?" You asked, looking at his back as he walked away.
"I'm going to deal with them the same way I always have-- use them up until they have no more use to me." He turned, his golden eyes piercing into your skull. You looked down quickly, knowing you just got put back into your place.
"Are you worried that you too will lose your purpose for me?" He asked suddenly, catching you off guard.
You weren't quite sure how to answer. If you said yes he would just laugh at you but if you said no he would scare you into thinking you weren't safe. But that was the truth, wasn't it? You weren't safe.
"Well, are you going to answer me?" He was right in front of you, kneeling down to look into your eyes. His eyebrow was raised as he waited expectantly.
"Of course I'm scared I won't be of any more use to you." You swallowed the lump in your throat, your bottom lip quivering as you fought back your tears. He stood to his feet and you closed your eyes, relieved you didn't have to stare into his anymore.
"Don't be." He leaned down to whisper into your ear. His breath sent a chill down your spine and your entire body shivered involuntarily. He placed a quick, soft kiss on your forehead. Your eyes shot open and you looked up at him but it was too late, he was already back in the bathroom, changing.
He had kissed you and while you hated this situation, you enjoyed his kiss. His lips were soft and he wasn't forceful about it. The very same man who scared you to death, who used to sit in the bathroom while you showered, who made you watch over a little girl he nearly killed every day had made your heart flutter with one simple kiss. How could that be? You were supposed to hate this man with your entire being for what he had done not only to you but to Eri as well. So, why didn't you hate him? Maybe a part of you had hoped this was him beginning to change, beginning to become a better person. You hadn't even noticed him return to the room until the lights went out.
"You coming to bed or are you going to sit there all night? I wouldn't recommend you do that." There it was, his voice that always held some sort of threat no matter what. You quickly went to bed beside him.
Tonight felt different though, the emotions coming off of him were kind, pure. While it worried you immensely, you felt much safer tonight than any other night before. He reached over and wrapped an arm around you, pulling you close into his chest.
"You're mine. Got it?" He murmured, the possessiveness in his voice evident.
"Yes sir." You answered, thankful the night hid your blush.
"(Y/N), use your quirk and make me tired. I need to shut my mind off and sleep." He spoke into your ear. You did what was asked of you and he fell asleep minutes later.
When he slept, he was at peace, he was beautiful. He didn't frighten you in this state, not one bit. How long would it take you to fall for a monster? It took you approximately 62 days, with an additional 59 before realising.
