As someone with a shadow manipulation quirk you tended to stay close to the ground, just in case of emergencies; it was where you fet safest. However, being the person that pro hero Hawks had a thing for, you often found yourself straying further and further away from the safe spaces you had created for yourself, especially the ground. His little crush on you was no secret either, almost every hero knew... Except for you. You just thought he was being nice to you because you were somewhat new to the professional scene.
You had been a vigilante for many years, it wasn't until recently that you were encouraged to go pro by some other pros (mainly Eraser Head), and so, you did. You weren't too appealing to the masses because you literally hid in the shadows, but you worked hard and brought down record amounts of criminals and villains. You rose in the ranks due to that. Now, you were number 14 hero during your first official year of pro hero duty.
"Keigo, I don't think it's a good idea." You nervously twiddle your thumbs.
You were the type of person who didn't do well in crowds, you felt suffocated and awkward. In fact, you didn't have very many friends, both heroes and civilians. Your anxiety prevented you from talking to many people, and it worsened since you basically lived and breathed in the shadows. Hawks didn't care though, he would drag you out and make you interact with people. Although you disliked it, you knew you needed it so you wouldn't lose yourself in the shadows of society. Besides, Hawks always made sure it was fun for you too.
"Come on, it'll be fun. Haven't you wondered what it's like to fly above everyone with the wind in your hair and the freedom in your heart? You can't tell me you haven't been curious before." He laughed as he grabbed your hand.
"I mean I have, but that doesn't mean I actually wanted to do it." You shook your head, the bubble of anxiety forming in the pit of your stomach.
"Look, it's a good night for a flight; The sky is clear, the stars are twinkling, and the air is warm. Let me take you." He turned back to you, his eyes softening his excited expression. Your hand was still in his and his warmth calmed you.
"I..." You bit your lip. How could you say no to his excited face? You liked to see him smile and you knew that if you said yes, it would produce a huge one.
"Okay... Just... Take it easy okay? There's no reason to be quick and fast." You nervously gave in. You warned him because you knew he only had one speed: gotta go fast.
He had to slow down when he was with you. At first he didn't like it, but he slowly grew to love taking it easy with you. You slowed him down and he sped you up. You two complimented each other nicely. Every hero loved seeing you and Hawks together because of this. It seemed like you made him humble for the first time.
"I know." He smiled warmly. He let go of your hand and held his arms out for you to climb into. You sighed and decided to get it over with. The quicker you let him take you, the quicker you would be able to be done with it.
"You're so small, how can I let you go anywhere?" He hummed as you were comfortably resting in his arms bridal style. You were tense and your arms were tight around his neck, your grip not going to be broken by anything.
"Shut up." You whimpered, shaking like a chihuahua.
"I'll be careful with you, I promise. Just... Remember I have no self control when it comes to the things I want." He stared into your eyes. The intensity in his gaze made you blush, completely forgetting about all of your previous anxieties.
He took off into the air and you closed your eyes tightly, burying your face into his neck. It was then you were able to realise he had made you flush so that you didn't worry about flying.
"Open your eyes, dove." He whispered in your ear, sending chills down your spine. You slowly, reluctantly opened your eyes.
He was true to his word, he wasn't going fast. At a slow, steady pace you watched the city from above. The city looked so much more peaceful from all the way up here, it was also less scary. All of the people down there with their own lives were what made the city so scary to you. What if you did something wrong and intruded on someone else's life, causing a problem for them? There were always villains to take down and you were scared pretty often, but you knew that hero work was something you were meant to do. Despite you being a bumdle of nerves who jumped at a lack of shadows, you still were number 14 pro hero.
"What do you think?" He asked, checking up on you with a soft voice. He didnt want to scare you with such an energetic voice when you were in an uncomfortable position.
"Words can't describe how magical it is, I love it. You're so lucky to see this all the time." You smiled, looking back at him. He was simply staring at you with a soft smile on his face.
"What is it?" You asked, your hand going to his cheek instantly out of concern.
"I have no self control when it comes to the things I want, dove." He rested his forehead on yours, sighing. You smiled and closed your eyes, leaning into his touch.
You felt his warm, soft lips on yours which surprised you. You opened your eyes to see him kissing you with a close-eyed look of content on his face. You smiled into the kiss and closed your eyes as well, embracing him fully. He tasted like vanilla, so sweet and warm-- like home.
"You're just too good to be true." He muttered as he pulled away, his eyes still closed and his forehead resting on yours once more.
"Thank you for everything, Keigo." You smiled, closing your eyes.
