He looked quite handsome if I do say so myself. And he watched me his eyes never leaving my face, he had a small smile on his face, and I returned one to. I felt kind of proud knowing that I was the highest-ranking nobles daughter in the room, higher than the Lord Donovan Douglas himself. I stood before the king and queen and showed my respects by curtsying, I was given a nod by the queen and by the king to, then the prince looked at me a second or two longer, as if saying I was not worth his time, flicked his hand shooing me away. That earned him a scolding from his sister. She looked at me and simply nodded but her cool blue eyes meeting my brown eyes. I did not need an approval from the Lord Donovan but I still looked at him and he was smiled. I smiled back to. The queen and princess caught the small exchange between the lord and I and sent me really nasty looks.
Once I turned from them and was at my seat where no one would see me, I rolled my eyes. 'Royals they think they are better than everyone else.' I sat down in an ungraceful manner, luckily no one was paying attention to me. The herald announced another lady into the room and I took the liberty of studying the royals again. They had the same expressions they gave me. Only this time the prince took notice of the girl. And his gaze lingered a little longer on the girls bosom. I rolled my eyes typical men.
As if on cue, he turned his attention away from the blond head before him and his gaze landed on me. He gave me a curt nod before looking back at the last debenture to enter the room. Once everyone was seated the king rose to speak.
"I thank each and every one of you for coming here to attend the season and the debentures competition for my son's hand, the prince Trenton Zachary Greyson. It brings me so much joy to see you are all well. Please feel free as my home is your home. Of course, there are rules and regulations which I expect each one of you to observe and there would be activities that each one of you must partake in. Although, those are for another day but as for now, let us eat."
The servants walked into the room carrying trays of food, the aroma hit me in the face sending signals to all parts of my body, eating was my favourite part of the day, be it in the mornings or evenings. I watched as the servants moved to the kings table, serving him, the princess, the prince and the lord Donovan but not the queen herself. The other servants placed food on our plates, and I was welcomed with the traditional Nolanian meal. Peas with rice, and a piece of schnitzel (we are partly Germans) and a touch of lemon.
I looked at my food and I felt my stomach turn inside out, I felt sick. The traditional meal was the meal the Nolanians ate during any formal gatherings, it was part of history, well me and history had some bit of disagreements to hold then.
"So, Lady Kathleen, the daughter of an archduke, how does it feel like?" It was Gianna that had asked, I was placed to sit by her side. "It feels fine, nothing different from any ordinary days life."
"But no, you are a royal, you have royal blood running through your veins. And your highly respected! Did you notice how the servants bowed before you in the hallway. I think they respect you more than the princess herself." She whispered in my ear, and I could feel her breath, it smelled of peas, I pressed onto the table and took deep breaths.
"Even if she is a royal herself, she does not act like one." It was Amelia that had spoken. I would have given her a response to shut her up, but my brain was so focused on not decorating the magnificent dining table.
"But why Lady Naomi?" She said my name with so much disgust. "Have you not touched your plate of food? It is considered a taboo if you do not eat the traditional meal, most especially if cooked by the kings servant themselves." I held onto my stomach, I could feel the bile raising, I wanted to run, scratch that there was a potted plant behind me, I am sure they would not mind.
"It's so nice to know that you care about me Penelope, you have changed from demonic to angelic, I guess I would not have to barn you after all."
"Do not be such a brat Naomi, you are not going to cause a scene right in front of the royal family are you now?" My stomach was doing summersaults, twisting and turning, I had tears in my eyes, I found it hard to breath and even talk, I was getting dizzy, the room was spinning. "Shut up Amelia." I had said a little to forceful and the whole room went silent. I was breathing hard, trying to calm myself, it was not working.
"Lady Naomi is something wrong?" It was the princess that had asked.
