Wordlessly she walked her shoulders slumped and not the ever so confident princess I had come to know. She stopped by a tree and stood still waiting for me to catch up. Once I was near her she looked to her left and motioned for the maids to leave. "We were told to-"
" Leave before I cut out your foul tongues." She shouted, and that sent the maids running. Running for shelter from the princess as they did very much value their tongues. I thought them incredibly wise. An incredibly good decision they took. She sat down ungracefully and placed her head on her hands.
For some reason I felt myself smile, she was starting to see the wrong of her doings, such as killing the king and queen and all. My mind went back to Trenton, I had not seen him, after breakfast yesterday nor had I seen him this morning. She motioned for the chair. I stood my ground standing.
"He is not coming back." She said simply, not to me but to herself. "Naomi I am –" She rose trying to come close to me, I held out my hands stopping her. "Who is not coming back? "
I felt even more dread as she looked down at her feet. Looking all but at me. "Who is not coming back Madelyn?" "Trenton." She said simply. "He rushed out in a hurry, it was not safe, not yet time, but he claimed he needed to clear his head. I begged him not to go, to stay, but but he refused and barked at me. The carriage was found, and the coachmen to, barely serving but his body, he is.. it was-"
She kept quiet, I knew what she was talking about, I had a picture of it. But it could not be. "Dead." She completed. I stared at her hard and for a long time, she squinted from my gaze and looked around, taking interest in the nearby flower.
"Are you happy now?" She looked at me. "Happy? Blissful? Joyous? Are you happy now?" She did not answer the question immediately, but looked away. "It was not meant to be like this, he was supposed to be happy. "
"Yes I hear you. And what does this have to do with me?" I asked as coldness entered my voice. "You claimed you love him did you not?" I rolled my eyes, love was a foolish thing was it not? "You did? Did you not?" I waved my hand at her. "I seem to remember something of that sort." She looked puzzled.
"So you do or you do not?" She asked her voice reigning the cool and coldness it once held. I chose to ignore her question and picked up a rose flower, I looked at it like it was the most unique thing in the world. I watched her from the side of my eye as she watched me puzzled.
"You do not seem at all angry that the prince is dead? Why? It sent Amelia running for the hills. Now her father is marrying her off to some old buffoon." Setting the flower back, I turned to look at her, hands on hips. "Why do you care if I am angry or sad, you heard what he said. He said he was just using me to get into my bed and in between my legs." "But he loves you." She spoke, her voice almost breaking.
"Yeah he does, does he not?" I sat down and looked at her, eyeing her form. She looked more than tired. "Is there something you need from me? Why did you call me out here.?" She bit on her lip. "The ring, Donovan gave you, throw it away, do not leave the castle just yet, but stay away from him, annul the wedding." I shook my head, "I am sorry I cannot, I have a threatening threat over my head, unlike you-."
" For crying out loud use your head!'
" she stomped her foot and stood up sending angry glares."Use my head, she says, I am using my head, you had advised me to use my head and not my heart sometime back while you threatened my life." She placed her hand to her head, her hair not the usual mass it always was, her blue eyes, dull and tearstained. She had dark circles under her eyes, like as if she had not slept for days.
"I know what it feels like to lose someone you love so much." She brought a hand to her neck, touching the necklace that I had just noticed was there. "Losing two people you hold dear to your heart, at the same time, when you could have stopped it, had you been smarter."
I rolled my eyes, "Great, just great." She turned to face me looking somewhat confused. "Please do continue I would like to hear of your love story. I might as well add mine." I said while stroking my chin in a mocking voice. "You think this is a joke?" She said wiping a tear from her face, I turned to leave her, she did not understand the amount of pain I was facing, she did not know how I was falling, burning instead.
