I walked out of the breakfast room, not feeling any better. Donovan had long gone, and so had the rest.
" When I told you to avoid him, I meant every single word, I did not mean you accepting his ring and proposal." "It is not like he proposed to you, do not worry I will send you all the updates on how miserable I would be." She stomped her foot blocking my way sending me death glares. "Why do you care? Tell me? Even if my life is as miserable, you would not give a flying fig. After all it was you that told Trenton to accept Amelia's hand. You told him to forget all about me." I raised an accusing finger at her, tears running down my eyes.
"You knew this would happen, you anticipated it you, you-" "Of course I did, and I did this to protect you fro-"
" From who? Tell me who. You act like the sweet angelic princess and yet youre the great demon herself!"
"Does a demon give you antidotes to make sure that you have something at hand that could cure any poison? Does a demon make sure to check your meals so that you are not poisoned? Does a demon-?"
" Yes she would do that, even go as far as claiming she were god himself and overseeing peace to the whole world." I screamed, anger and frustration eating at me. "Do not think I do not know-"
" What I did was for your own safety, for your own good. I gave you a simple instruction do not attach yourself to Donovan, is that so hard to accomplish?" "Why? Because you love him?" She mouthed a 'What?' She was so taken aback, that she took a step or two. "You love him and you want him for yourself. That is the only reason as to why you would tell me to stay away from him."
"What on earth are you-?" "I get, do not worry, I believe it would be a loveless marriage between us two, but it is not your lot he picked, it is mine. I will be leaving soon, farewell to you and the prince, I cannot say I look forward to meeting you." I had two things on my mind, writing a letter to my father telling him of my decision and two crying my stomach out. I had barely reached the door.
"Why did you do it?" The voice I had been dreading asked. I simply shrugged. "You will marry Amelia because she has," I stopped to think, what did she have that I did not. After all I was a rank or two higher than her, with more wealth and connections. My head could even buy a whole piece of land. "Whatever she has and I am going to marry him because," I swallowed, "because;" it was hard getting the words out, but I needed to and I would soon, "because I have come to find that I share an affectionate feeling with him, I might," Heaven so help me! Heavens, my heart was crushing, and enormous pain could be felt. "love him."
It was a mere whisper but I got it passed my lips and spoke the words out. "Very well." Was all he said as he walked past me, back straight and body rigid, he held a hand on the door and turned, "I wish you all the best in your new life." I looked down, feeling ever hurt than before. "And Naomi.." he wanted to say something, I saw it in his eyes, the willingness to part his lips to speak, the determination of his hands and his eyes. But he said nothing and walked out. Leaving me standing alone with the princess.
I felt my heart being pulled out, tossed in an endless sea of waves. Madelyn stood before me and placed her hand out, a simple but kind gesture wanting me to take it in her, she had no smile, no evil glint, not even an expressionless face. All she had was a blank face filled with pain, her blue eyes dull, almost tear stained. She waited patiently for me as I collected myself and stood up not taking her hand. I took a last look at her before heading to my room.
The last look I would ever get to see of her. By morning I would be gone.
