He still had a confused expression on his face, nonetheless his smile was still present. "Why not come with me, to a comfortable place so you can tell me more about your dream Naomi?"
" Oh lord Donovan, it is unbearable," I had read about instances were lonely girls were raped and defiled and could not help but feel like that was my impending fate. He grew tired and wary, his smile fading, I always knew it was fake. He moved to stand next to me, his presence sent chills down my spine. I moved to an opening, I was not a fast runner but in this situation I was willing to make a compromise. "It was horrible," And truly it was, my ears had almost bled on that fateful day.
"I had asked my mother to help me pick a dress, the best dress from Scotland, and oh lord Donovan, I cannot bear," I placed my hand on my chest above my rapidly beating heart. "The dress.. the dress was ruined." True story, it was what had happened to my older sister, and my father was not to pleased that all his money had gone to nothing, she was then forced to wear an already used gown. Though she looked extremely pretty, and the gown looked new, she was not to pleased. And then that started her rebellious behaviour, stubbornness ran in the family blood.
"And what if it is true? What if I should have listened to my sister? What if she is right and my dress becomes ruined, what will I do?"
I crumpled to the ground and faked my tears. "I am sure you can wear any other gown that you have, it does not really have to be this Scottish gown if it come to that." I stood up like a lion ready to pounce on its prey, in all reality. I was scared and was trying to make a ran for my life. "Are you seriously telling me such?" I scolded him and he took a step back. "I will not wear an already worn gown and have myself ridiculed in front of society." And I walked or more of like ran from him and his disturbing presence.
It was not after I was safely tucked behind a tree that I dared to breath. My hand on my chest, above my rapidly beating heart. "You know for a lady that likes food and books, lying about a ball gown is the least convincing thing you could come up with." He moved from the shadows he was hiding from and came to stand under the moon light. "You could have picked something better such as," He stroked his chin with a small smile on his face, "Sneaking out to come spend time with me, now that is the perfect excuse." I took in a breath and moved from the shadows of the tree to playfully hit him on his chest. "Why did you not come to help me, you knew I was in so much discomfort?" "Whoah." He raised his hands as he smiled.
"Help a fair maiden that claims she can handle my horse. Now that would get my head off, besides, you handled yourself very well. I am sure if he took a step or two closer, you would have physically defended yourself. That is something you have in common with my sister, unlike the rest of the dandies." I giggled, "I could not have said it better myself your highness." The look he gave me was incredibly beautiful. "How are you?" He asked, "Maddie told me that you, her and my mother were almost poisoned and it was quite a shock for you. You barely touched your meal this evening."
I turned so my back was facing him and looked into the darkness, not far from where I stood, I could still see it, in my minds eye, the rolling heads of the silently screaming maids. A shiver ran down my body and I wrapped my arms around myself. Trenton must have noticed because he closed the distance and wrapped his hands around me. I felt warmth spread all over me and something hard pushing against my back, not that I was complaining. He turned me around, so I was facing him. I was still mad at him for choosing Amelia over me during the dance but I could not be mad at him with the way his hands held mine.
"I will never let anything happen to you, as long as I am alive." I swallowed hard and looked down, I felt like I was involved in some mess, something big that even he did not know about. He brought my head up and made me look at him. "I promise. do you believe me?" It was a question my mind answered immediately, "yes, yes I do, now take me away to some place and make love to me,' but I took my time to answer. "Do not make a promise you know you cannot keep, besides I am not your responsibility." I said it and I felt my heart ache. Why?
I did not know I had let a tear slip from my eye, he wiped it away with his thumb. "And what if I said you were my responsibility? What if I said I cared? Would you trust me then?" He had a look that spoke more than a thousand words at the same time, I found myself lost, lost in his eyes drowning and never coming up for air.
"Yes" It was barely a whisper but he heard it. He grinned and brushed a stray strand of hair from my face and before I knew what was happening, his lips came crushing down on mine. It was something I had never done before and had lack of experience in, but with his lips I felt like I knew what I was doing.
