Guardian and Moon history wasn't quite as exciting as Talent Training, I walked to class with the sound of Jack and Merida arguing about some random thing. Hiccup interjected several brainiac comments, an I laughed at various times, but I was distracted. I hadn't realized that Talent Training wasn't only for learning to domestically use your talent, but to learn every advantage, your limits, and your strength. Up until now, I hadn't realized that my new life would require me to protect myself against his forces. He, being Pitch Black, the controller of nightmares, and the Guardians greatest enemy. It struck me suddenly, that I wasn't safe anymore.
My parents weren't there to protect me, let alone guide me. Even though I was a 9th grader, I had to rely on my instincts and training. That shook me to my core. I bit my lip, and found we had arrived at the door. I took a breath, and Jack noticed my concern "you okay Punzie?" I nodded "I'm okay" and walked through the door. A table for four, next to 3 others was in facing a desk, whiteboard, and teacher. I sat on the end of the closet table to the door, my friends all lining up at the table as well. Jack sat to my right, and Hiccup to his right, and Merida to his right.
The room quickly filled with students as the bell rang. Our teacher waited till all the teens were seated, and walked to the whiteboard. "Alright, now that we know everyone is here we can get started. I, am Professor Andrews" he said, wiping a smudge of the board. He then sat behind his desk facing us all. "Today we will start the history" he paused for effect, I waited, tense "of Pitch Black". A chill crept through the room, and several of the students looked frightened. My entire row seem un-phased, and non-chalant. However under the table I was gripping my metal ring, which was my weapon. Me and Jack were told to keep them at all times, mine was in the form of a ring currently, while Jack kept his as a wooden ring, liking my idea.
"Pitch Black started out as a young farmer" Professor Andrews said, pulling a book cart around the room handing them to students. "He lived just before the dark ages, and was ready to be engaged, but had a difficult time catching his bride. He wasn't an un-pleasent fellow, quite the contrary. If you turn to page 36, you can read along with me. " The students turned to the page and Professor called on a girl named Mavis to start us off. She read "Pitch Black was known at Brandon Couper, and had a peaceful life. He went to formal schooling and became a farmer. " The next student started, a boy named Kristof "He turned 21 and married a local maiden, her identity is unknown. " He stopped, and his neighbor continued "When he was 24 he became a father, and his wife died in childbirth, bearing a daughter. Brandon loved his daughter dearly" Michael said, I wasn't sure exactly who he was.
"He buried his wife in his hometown, and raised his daughter on her own" said a girl I didn't know yet, Cinderella I think. Table 2 started, and I slowly learned the chilling truth. Brandon Couper had been a fine man, who loved his daughter and did everything he could to make her happy. Merida's voice rang out in the room. "The girl asked to go out and collect daisies for her mother's grave. " "Her father refused, saying they would do so tomorrow. He didn't want to be caught in the dark, for in those days there was a greater evil hiding under the cloak of night" Hiccup said voice steady and even, but he looked shaken. I guessed we all did.
"The daughter only knew that she couldn't leave after dark, but she didn't understand, being 6 years of age. She left the home and walked to her mother's grave" Jack's cool voice sounded next to me, and I looked at the page, dreading the next part. "She was killed by the great evil, the moon failed to protect her, and Brandon found his daughter dead the next morning. " I read voice weak and shivering, I was shocked. "Brandon hardened his heart, and turned to the darkness, wanting vengeance against the moon for not protecting his daughter. He vowed to harm the children the Moon protected, so all would know his pain. But eventually he morphed into something much more... sinister, and took over the night, and became the ruler of evil" Professor Andrews finished, and closed his book, the bell rang, and we all slowly packed our books. Jack and Merida didn't bicker in the hall, and we stayed silent as we headed to our next class.
I walked behind Jack and followed him into the Arts room. This class was for painting and drawing, easy for me. I would definitely ace the class. I was quickly distracted from the history lesson and it escaped my mind. I drew a sketch of my room, accurately as I could, and Professor Skeeter was impressed. I was given full points for the day, and all too soon the class was over. I packed all my materials I had gotten out as fast as I could. I hopped out of my seat and my foursome and I headed to the last class before lunch. Defense against the Nightmares and Pitch Black himself.

FanficMy heart thumped loudly. It was rhythmic, and I tried to distract myself with the beat. B-Beat B-Beat B-Beat, it was so loud, he must be hearing it. I blushed, of course he couldn't, that kind of thing only happens in books. I was just imagining it...
