2 months later

The weeks passed, and day after day went by. I became popular with many of the kids, but mostly stuck to my four. I became really close with Hiccup, and we relied on each other. Jack and Merida were leaving for term break, but us two wanted to study instead. The guardians became our friends, but their was always a sadness in their eyes.

Hiccup hadn't felt like going all the way back to Berk for only 2 weeks, and my family was vacationing. So we stayed in our dorm. I sat with him and watched Avengers. "Truth or Dare? Or painting nails!" I asked Hiccup, I knew he wasn't girly so he was stuck with truth or dare. He groaned "Punzie! You know I hate slumber party games!"

I giggled cheekily and smiled "cmon! You first". He sighed, "Truth or Dare?" He grumbled flipping on his back on the floor and looked up at the ceiling. I followed his example "Truth" I smiled tracing a sun on my wrist in magical sunlight. He thought for a moment, and held up his wrist for me to magically draw on.

"How long has your hair done this?" He asked, looking at it curiously, prodding a lock of my hair with a graphite pencil. "Like, been magical" he added. "My entire life" I said quietly, I was always nervous talking about my hair, like someone might creep up and cut it.

Hiccup nodded, thinking "truth" he said taking out a sketch book, and started drawing Toothless, flipping onto his stomach. I put my hands on my stomach, "how'd you loose your leg, what's your past?" I requested. He took a deep breath, letting it out loudly "That's a long story"

I scooted closer to him encouragingly, he chuckled and I beamed up at him. I wanted, no, needed to know who he was, really. Even though I knew Merida liked him, and I liked Jack, this past week had unlocked new feelings in me. I was starting to care more for Hiccup.

"A long time ago, in the middle ages, the Vikings ruled the seas, my ancestors. They lived in tribes, and warred amongst themselves. They battled Dragons and we're all you could imagine. They believed in the ancient Norse gods, like Thor, Loki, Oden". Hiccup gestured to the TV playing Avengers.

"One day, in the Hooligan tribe, the chief's wife had a son. He was scrawny, and small, and no one expected him from the great and mighty chief. The mother was taken off by dragons, and never seen again" I was mesmerized by his story, I wondered how he knew all this.

"The son grew, and was mocked by his village. Even the others youths laughed at him, the scrawny son of the chief. " He said, a little bitter, and a little wistful. "One Day, he shot down a most feared dragon. No one believed him, and he set off on his own to bring the beast's head back. "

"He became friends with the dragon, and they were eventually found out. The son ended up saving the vikings, and bringing them a new better life. He paid a price, exactly like his dragon's sacrifice. They both lost their left foot"
Hiccup said, and I stared at him, shocked.

"One day, a guardian visited them, and took him into the future. He had a destiny to fulfill. " Hiccup finished. "And that's me" I stared at him, my jaw dropping. He laughed and shrugged "yeah I'm a viking, way out of my time" I blinked, and stared "wow" I breathed sitting up and pulling my hair into a long blonde pony tail.

"Truth or Dare?" He asked playfully, obviously having had coming to terms with it all a while ago. I sighed, smiling at him flirtatiously, "Dare" Hiccup smirked, "I dare you to tell Jack you like him". I groaned and took a pillow off the couch and hit him. "No!" I said glaring and he chuckled "okay fine. I dare you to...... steal Jack's hoodies so when he comes back he has to search for them." he stated triumphantly.

I grinned, "okay" I said skipping into Jack's room and removing the hoodies. I stuffed them into a lower kitchen cabinet. It held all the cleaning supplies, so he'd never look there unless forced. I didn't mind pulling a prank on Jack, but I couldn't lie to him.

Hiccup snickered and we chatted for awhile, till we fell asleep on the couches. Until I slept, I never stopped thinking about his story. It must be hard living out of your era. Maybe that's why his favorite Avenger was Captain America.

Merida's words from a distant memory flooded my mind as I drifted off.
"Legends are Lessons". Her mother had told her that story, and now it was mine to consider.
