Adelaide's POV

*Start Of Flashback*

I heard the door slam and I watched my mother walk away into the rain, packed duffel bag in hand. I could hear my brother Greig crying in the other room, but I tried to ignore it because it was about 5:30am. The rain was battering full pelt against the window pains and my dad was clattering about in the kitchen so I went down the hall to tell him to be quiet.
"Dad? Are you here?" I said as I tiptoed into the room.
"Go away." He replied, lighting a cigarette. I didn't want to get on the wrong side of him or he'd snap me like a twig. Despite that, I continued to question the events.
"Where did mum go?"
He angrily chucked the note at me, it was crumpled and written in sloppy handwriting. I threw it to the side and ran to the front door to see if she had left. But it was too late, and my mum had already driven her car down the road.
