Chapter six (The prodigal Daughter)

Ball in her court, now all we need is an affirmation from her and I'll be bound to her forever, not happening.

I looked at her face and she looked confused and scared for some reason. But what is she even scared of? Well I think now is the chance for me to strike. Yes! I'll use her own fear against her,it always works.

"Father, sorry to interrupt but I wanted to ask if I could speak to her privately for some minutes" I began and they all gave me questioning looks. "I just wanted to get the pressure off her so she could think properly" I added quickly.

"I don't think that'll be a problem. Fannah, lead him to the kitchen so you could have a word with him" her father spoke. Fannah didn't look happy about it but she had no choice. It's not like I was happy being here. I rolled my eyes inwardly.

Really? Kitchen? Who takes someone to the kitchen for a talk? Wow, the people in this house are something else. Fannah stood up and led the way while I followed behind her.

It took us four steps to reach the kitchen. Really? This is the kitchen? I've never seen a kitchen this small in my entire life. Forget about kitchens even my bathroom is bigger than this.

The kitchen looked really old with old pots and pans neatly arranged in a corner. And then a few plates were also in a basket in another corner of the kitchen. The kitchen might be small but it was tidy. I give them credit for that.

She went out and returned with two stools. She placed one in front of me and motioned for me to sit. I took a seat on the uncomfortable stool and she sat on the other stool in front of me but not too close.

"Before you say what you want I'll like to thank you for what you did the other day, I don't know where I would have been if not for you" she said sincerely.

Wow, I'm truly amazed. After landing her in trouble by my silly act of help she still appreciates it. I thought after bringing shame to her and her family she'd dislike me for it.

"You are grateful? I thought you'll be mad at me for helping you in that manner, I mean I literally tainted your reputation with that act" I asked.

"Actions are judged due to intentions, that's what my Dad believes. Your intention was pure and nothing can change that. Besides I'm sure I would have been in greater shame than I am now. My life would have been ruined forever" she almost whispered the last part. She looked genuinely grateful.

"If you really think I've done you a favour, then I want you to return it. One good turn deserves another. am I right?" I blurted without even thinking. I wanted to use her fear against her but here I am asking for a favour instead.

"I owe you my life, so I'm ready to do whatever it is you want me to do as long as you won't ask me to go against the lord" she sighed. I rolled my eyes at her statement. Go against the Lord? She thinks too far, why on earth will I ask her to go against the lord?

"You see, the thing is that I don't want this marriage" I started. She didn't look surprised at all. Perhaps, she might have guessed it. She just nodded indicating that I should continue.

"I agreed to the marriage just to please my father. I love my father very much and I always want to make him happy. So I want you to say no to this wedding. Just tell them you don't want it and my Father won't force you" I ended. gauging her reaction.

She looked at me with a blank expression. Her face didn't give away what she was thinking and I hated the fact that I couldn't read her facial expression. She looked down at her fingers and then back up at me and sighed.
