Ahmad
So it was official! The knot had been tied and I was now bound to that woman! I had dreamt of this day with Jasi but look what happened. Now, I completely understood what they mean by 'we plan, Allah plans but he decides' never had I ever thought that tying my marital knot will be the same as having me shackled and thrown into the worst of dungeons.
"Congratulations man! The man is finally off the market" my friends teased as they circled me once we stepped out of the mosque. Numerous people offered their hands and I shook it with a huge grin, plastered on my face, if course it was fake. There was nothing happy about that day.
" Why aren't you smiling? This should be the happiest day of your life" Namrud asked. I didn't even spare him a glance. Namrud believed that one should always see the positive side of things. So I should focus on me getting married and who I was getting married to shouldn't matter. But that wasn't possible, was it?
"How on earth do you expect him to smile when he's getting married to that Hideous thing? If my parents ever brought a girl like that for me to marry, I swear I'll break her bones before I say no" Bassam spoke up. Bassam's words made me smile. I was happy that he understood my situation and was agreeing with me.
Bassam was not just my friend he was just like the third sibling I never had. Well, I do have a third sibling, but Aas ditched us just to secure a relationship with Mahmud Asthana. I tried all my best to find Aas, but that Asthana boy was good at hiding.
"Come on Bassam, that's Harsh. No matter how much dislike you have for her you can't say such things about her, she's his wife now and you know what that means" Amin chimmed in, already being protective of his future Queen. Speak about patriotic citizens.
"Look, before you guys start bickering back and forth, remember that my mom say we should always..." Namrud began to say but we cut him off knowing exactly what he was going to say.
"Always focus on the positive side in all situations" we all chorused. I rolled my eyes in annoyance and he gave us a sheepish grin.
"Yeah that was exactly what I was gonna say" he said scratching the back of his head. "So since we all know that, then let's do the needful. Remember, there's a custom that should be happening right now" he concluded. Namrud was right. It had always been a tradition for the groom and his friends to meet up with the bride so he could officially introduce her to them as his wife.
*************
Fannah"Masha Allah Masha Allah! It's official Fannah, you are now a married woman" Hindu squealed in excitement, as she gave me a tight hug. I just kept hoping for all my bones to still be intact by the time she pulled away.
"Hey Hindu, please, be careful not to break all of my new sister's bones okay?" Huda joked. She and Hindu erupted in laughter. Hindu was very good at making friends, and Huda was a nice girl so they easily became friends.
"At this point, I don't think it's wrong if I break all of her bones. My best friend is now married and she's going to leave me all by myself" Hindu cried wiping imaginary tears from her face. I rolled my eyes at her and I surprisingly found Huda doing the same.
"You are making it sound as she's leaving the country. She's right here with us you know, and remember, you're always welcome here" Huda replied. Hindu still kept on her act of wiping away her imaginary tears.
The two of them kept joking around while I drowned myself in my thoughts. All that was on my mind was how unfair the whole situation was to Ahmad and Jasi. No matter how hard I tried to convince myself that it wasn't my fault, I still knew that I was the cause of it all.
