Teresa's P.O.V

I watched in horror as the creature approached Thomas and I. His eyes and nose were missing, and he walked with a limp.

He continued to mumble and chant those haunting words as he came closer.

"Wh-what is that?" I stuttered.

I looked at Thomas with fear in my eyes as the creature continued to moan and hum.

I could feel the sweat trickling down my neck and soaking through my shirt, which was an obvious sign I was scared out of my mind.

"Those are cranks. They are the product of people who have the flare, and pass the gone." He stuttered.

"How do we get rid of it?" I asked.

The problem wasn't going to have to get rid of it, but it would be getting rid of the army of cranks that had revealed themselves from behind the corner.

Everybody was taken aback by their horrific chants.

"Rose took my nose I suppose. Rose took my nose I suppose."

By now, I could make out the oddness of the cranks. Some were missing fingers, others were missing facial features, and all walked funny.

Everybody's face was wide in fear and shock, unable to do anything about the fast-approaching ex-humans.

"Attack!" Somebody yelled from behind me.

We attacked in battle mode taking out as many cranks as we possibly could.

Knives were being plunged into the bodies of cranks, people were being bitten and everything was in full-out havoc.

I ran to a crank, and used my knife to pierce through it's flare infected brain, causing it to collapse.

I turned my back, and kicked another nose-less monster in the gut. There was blood seeping through multiple cuts on his body, and bruises were covering his arms.

I punched the crank in the face, before plunging my knife deep into it's throat.

The blood of the crank oozed out of the wound and splattered onto the cave floor.

I stopped fighting the cranks when I heard Thomas scream.

I ran to where his voice was coming from, dodging cranks from left to right. Fighting cranks sure was tiring.

Finally I had reached Thomas. He was fighting a crank a few feet away from where one of the immunes was being mauled by the cranks.

Unfortunately, that immune was Brenda.

I was frozen in shock and watched as the crank teared up her face and slammed her face repeatedly into the cave ground.

Thomas finished off his fight against the crank he was fighting, before he ran to the crank and Brenda. He delivered the final blow to the crank who attacked Brenda, and watched as it tumbled over.

He was a little too late, because Brenda wasn't moving anymore.

I walked slowly over to where Thomas crouched over Brenda. He was shaking her and hoping she was still alive.

The fight between the immunes and the cranks was still going on in the background.

I kneeled beside Brenda and pressed my fingers on her neck to check her pulse.

There was no sign of her heart beating, and I knew she was gone.

Thomas' expression was utter sadness and shock. I couldn't do anything but give him a hug and comfort him.

"I'm sorry this had to happen." I said.

He didn't say anything back. He continued to stare at her lifeless body.

"Sometimes we have to sacrifice a few, to save the many." I quietly explained.

The fight with the cranks was soon over and Minho came to inform us we had to leave soon.

He saw Brenda's lifeless body on the ground and he put his head down.

"Sorry man." He said gloomily.

Thomas planted a final kiss on what was left of Brenda's cheek before he got up and walked off with Minho.

This is our life, I guess we have to get used to it.
