Ria

I took off my remaining makeup from the day and got into my pyjamas. I got cosy in my bed when I realised that I still haven’t told mum and dad about my trip to Dubai. I had no idea how they were going to react to this. I mean, at one end of the world they are looking at guys for me to marry and at one end of the world, there’s me who is going off to Dubai with her friend. Oh, well, I still had to tell them.

“Hello?” Mum answered after a couple of rings.

“Hi, mum it’s me, Ria.”

“Oh yeah. How are you beta? Have you decided that you want to meet one of the guys? I’ll give you his number. His name is –” She began and kept going, but luckily I cut her off at the right time, I didn’t care who this guy was, I mean, I’m genuinely not interested.

“Mum! Mum! NO! I don’t want to meet any guys or call any guys or have anything to do with any guys! Get it? Ok? Ok.”

“Oh. Then why did you call” all her excitement drained away as quickly as it came.

“I called you to tell you that I’m going to Dubai.” I said.

“WHAT!” she screamed through the phone! “You’re going to Dubai? That too alone? Here we are looking for a suitable guy for you to marry and there you’re going to Dubai? Until London it was fine but Dubai? What will people say?” Oh, god, here comes her lecture about society. “They will say, look at their daughter, first she went to London alone and now Dubai. No guy will want to marry you either. No. No. No. We can’t take such a big risk. Stay in London only.”

“Mum. I’m not going alone. My friend, I mean the CEO of the company I work for is also coming with me, and he’s also an Indian so it’s algood’s.” I explained everything to her.

“Indian? Is he Gujarati? How old is he? How much does he earn? Is he married?” Oh no, now she’s trying to pair me up with him?

“Mum stop! He’s just a colleague and we are going because it’s a conference for CEO’s and Legal advisors so since I’m his legal advisor I have to go with him. That’s all. And it’s only for three nights and four days and, and we will have separate rooms, so you don’t have to worry.” I had to tell her that there is nothing between me and Rohan.

“Oh. Well your dad isn’t here at the moment but I’ll tell him, and since it’s for work I guess you have to go. When are you leaving by the way?”

“Thank you. And I’m leaving tomorrow evening.”

“Ok then. Have a safe journey. And call me once you get there unlike when you got to London.”

“Ok, mum. Bye for now, I need to sleep.”

“Goodnight.” She said softly and hung up.

I could now peacefully go to sleep without worrying about my parents.

Rohan

I’m going to Dubai with Ria! I’m going to Dubai with Ria! I sang in my mind. I was excited more than ever! This was going to be both mine and Ria’s best trip ever! We were supposed to leave tomorrow evening, which means that Ria wouldn’t have enough time to pack if she came to work. She can’t come to work tomorrow. I had to tell her that. Without second thoughts I rang her up.

“Hello?” She picked up the phone.

“Hi” I said.

“What do you want now Rohan?” She asked.

“You’re not coming to work tomorrow.” I said.

“What? Why?” She sounded shocked.

“Because if you come to work tomorrow, you won’t have enough time to pack your bags for the trip, so it’s better that you stay at home and pack your bags. Ok? Ok.” I said and hung up before she could even say anything else.

I was so excited that I couldn’t fall asleep, so instead I just lay in my bed smiling like an idiot, thinking about the fun we will have in Dubai.

Ria

Ok, so I’m not going to work tomorrow, instead going to pack my bags all day long. I swear I don’t understand Rohan, sometimes he’s arrogant and all up himself, and other times he’s really concerned and caring. Oh, well I guess I better go to sleep now.

Four pairs of jeans, four tops, two scarf’s – although I don’t think it gets too cold in Dubai – and the black gown that Rohan brought me for the dinner party. My bag was almost packed; I just needed to sort through the shoes. I chose simple ballet flats the matched the tops for those pairs and a pair of black wedges for the gown. I packed in some makeup and other utilities too. Just as I finished zipping up my bag my phone went off, it was Rohan.

“Hi.” He greeted me.

“Hey.” I greeted him back.

“Packed your bags?”

“Yeah; you?” I asked back.

“Not yet, I’m still in the office.” What? He told me to stay at home and he is at work!

“What the – What are you doing there? What about your bags?” I asked.

“That’s why I called you. Look, I still have some work left to do and I won’t be able to pack my bags in time for the flight today so I need you to go to my house and pack my bags for me. Please.” He pleaded.

“Urgh! Ok!” I couldn’t possible say no. “But how am I going to get there?”

“Oh, don’t worry I’ll send a driver over to pick you up. Oh, and take your bag with you, we’ll go straight to the airport from there, ok?”

“Ok.” I said and hung up. Well I guess I better get ready.

Rohan’s house as usual was huge. I had to ask one of the maids where his room was. Luckily, he had left a suitcase on his bed for me to pack his clothes in. I packed the Denim jeans, white shirt and black blazer that we had brought the other day from the mall and other three pairs of pants, shirts and shoes that matched. I had no idea of what kind of utilities he would need so I just left it for him to pack.

I’d been wondering around in his room for about twenty minutes after packing his suitcase when he casually walked through the door.

“Hey.” He waved at me, “Thanks for packing my bag, I’ll just go and freshen up and then we can leave.” He walked towards the bathroom.

“No problem, but you still need to pack whatever utilities you need. Oh and also undergarments, you know what I mean?” I told him.

“Oh so like, shaving stuff and underwear’s?” He asked, but I knew he was just being annoying on purpose.

“Yes.” I said with a strict face. He smiled and hurried off into the bathroom.

Five minutes later he came out looking fresh as ever; holding his shaving kit in one hand and I think, underwear’s in the others. He quickly shoved them in his bag and smiled at me.

“Ready?” I asked.

“Yep.” He answered back.

“Then, shall we go? I mean I don’t want to miss the flight.”

“Chill, you’re with Rohan Sharma. You can never miss the flight.”

“Why? Does the flight wait for you?” I asked sarcastically.

He just laughed at that and said, “Let’s go.” He held my hand and pulled me behind him, but stopped a couple of steps later and let go of my hand. He probably realised that I’m not Aisha that he can just pull me like that.

“Sorry.” He said, without looking my way and started walking out of the room. I quickly grabbed my bag and followed him.
