Chapter 12 - My New Friend

Ria

Next morning – Thank God – I woke up in my own bedroom and not some grand one. Unlike the typical girls I don’t take two hours to get ready so I was ready in around thirty minutes. I was having a cup of coffee on my balcony and was about to call my driver to pick me up – I told him to come when I call him rather than him waiting for me for a couple of hours or so - when I see the posh aqua Audi that I drove yesterday pull up into the complex.

The door opened and first came the posh shoes, then one hand on the door and finally the head. Rohan stepped out of the car and waved to me. I waved back.

“What are you doing here?” I mouthed to him.

“I’ve come to pick you up for work” He yelled back. Before I noticed my palm was on my head. If anyone in the complex was watching us they would never guess that Rohan is the CEO of such a big company.

“Ok, one minute I’ll be down there.” I mouthed and signalled him. I ran inside, threw my half filled coffee cup into the sink and picked up my bag and shoes and left out the door. I put my shoes on in the lift and fixed myself up a bit. I had to look good in front of him.

“Hey there friend.” Rohan greeted, just as I got out of the building. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining bright as ever. He opened the other side’s door for me like a complete gentleman – now that’s a new thing. I stepped in and he closed the door behind and went around to his seat.

“Get ready for some boring driving, I guess.” He said. I couldn’t help but laugh at that.

Rohan

After waiting in the traffic for over thirty minutes we reached our office.

“Hey Ro!...And Ria” Karan greeted us as we walked into the office together. Everyone in the office eyed us; I’m sure they thought something was going between us, but in reality we were just friends.

“Hey Karan!” We greeted Karan in sync and went into our separate cabins.

I had a whole load of work to do today as I missed so much because I was too busy watching Ria’s dance off challenges last week. I didn’t go out for lunch so instead my new friend, Ria bought in lunch for me.

“Thank you so much! I was starving!” I thanked her.

“No problemo!” She smiled.

She brought in two green bean salads and two sandwiches with two containers of orange juice. So I guess she is having lunch with me. She handed me my set if food and left with hers. Wait why is she leaving? No! We were supposed to have lunch together! Or maybe that was just something I was thinking and not her. By the time I decided to call her to have lunch with me she’d already disappeared into her cabin. So I guess I was having lunch all by myself – or maybe not.

Karan stormed into my office with a concerned face – actually it was his you’re-in-some-trouble face. An instant chill ran down my spine. Don’t get me wrong, Karan was a nice and chilled out guy but when something bugged him he would flip the whole fucking world.

“Hey Karan. Would you like some lunch?” I offered with a fake smile.

“No. But you know what I would like?” Karan yelled at me, “I would like you to keep a safe distance from Ria!”

“What do you mean? We’re just friends Karan! You know me better Karan, I could never think of anything like that between Ria and Me.” I explained myself.

“Look, all I want is you to be happy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Ria will make you depressed and all – in fact this is the happiest I’ve seen you in ages and I’m sure it’s all because of Ria – but all I’m saying that she could be the reason that you end up depressed. She won’t do anything on purpose, everything will happen accidently but you’ll be the one most hurt.” He patted my back and left.

What was all that about? I didn’t really get what he meant but he was dead serious. I didn’t think about it too much and continued on with my lunch. After lunch I continued on with my work and didn’t see Ria until I was about to leave to go home.

It was quite late by now and also dark and there was light coming from her cabin. I was about to turn the door knob but instead decided to knock on it, otherwise she would give me that manners lecture again.

“Come in” she called from inside and I finally opened the door.

“You’re still here?” I asked the obvious question.

“Well, you give me so much work. I have to finish it” She smiled.

“I think it’s too late to go home alone now, I’ll drop you off.” I offered.

“I’m not going home alone. Your company gave me a driver remember?” she laughed

“Yeah but can you trust the driver?”

“What can he do with me? Rape me?” I couldn’t help myself but laugh at that.

“Actually, no. He wouldn’t have the guts to do anything bad with you in fact no guy would. They would all be too scared that you might fix them up in legal shit!”

“Hey! I’m not that bad either” She defended herself.

“So are you going to come with me or not?” I asked. I was actually starving and wanted to get home as quickly as possible, but didn’t want to leave her alone here either.

“Since you’re begging me so much, I’ll be nice and come with you.” She packed her bag and got up.

We got into the lift and reached for the car park button at the same time. She took her hand away and I pressed it and smiled back.

“How did you know that I needed to go to the car park?” I asked just so start a conversation.

“Common sense, Rohan” anyone with a car would want to go to the car park” She said with a shrug of her shoulders.

“Oh yeah”

“Actually, on the first day of work when I was coming down you entered the lift and pressed the car park button before me so yeah. People tend to remember the bad things more often” She smiled at me. The lifts door opened and we stepped out into the car park.

“Can I drive?” She asked.

“Oh no! You are not driving my precious baby! Plus you don’t even have a license for this country.” I couldn’t take the risk, if she was caught driving without a license she would get in trouble and so would I.

“Hey, where can I get a license from?” She questioned.

“You can get it from any Vehicle testing site that is certified by the England Transport Agency.”

“And where is that?”

“Ok, let’s do one thing, this Saturday I’ll pick you up at nine and we’ll go together. That way I can show you around London a bit and you can also get your license.” I guess this was just another excuse to spend a whole day with my new friend!
