chapter seven | runner

i can't believe what me and thomas found. actually, i don't KNOW what me and thomas found. it was a remote device that was beeping. it had the letters printed WCKD on it, the same on the boxes when i first came up in here. it made me feel intrigued as to what it is and if it can help with escaping. thomas suggested to show it to alby and newt because they're the leaders. i agreed. so that's where we're going.

me and thomas walked into the meeting hut. alby and newt looked at the both of us with confusion.

"what are you two doing here?" newt said, alternating between the two of us.

"me and y/n found something," thomas replied.

"well, last time y/n found something, a griever came and killed some of us," alby said, annoyed.

"i know, but this seems like it could help," i replied after alby's comment.

"that's what you said last time," alby said, now bickering with me with a sassy tone.

"did minho teach you sass?" i asked, in a bratty matter and stepping forwards.

"okay, no need for a fight," thomas said, pulling my arm back.

"whatever," i mutted under my breath.

"why are you here?" newt asked, confused.

"like i said, me and y/n found something, but it was inside the griever," thomas said.

"what did you find?" newt replied back. thomas pulled out the device from his pocket and gave it to newt.

"we found that inside the dead griever," i said, waiting for their response.

"these are the same letters we get on our supplies," newt responded.

"yeah, apart from the hole, this is the first anything that you and the runners have found in over three years, right thomas?" i asked, pointing my finger between the device and thomas.

"right," thomas said back.

"look, there's gotta be something out there in the hole newt," i said, now looking at newt.

"yeah, the runners tried that already y/n," alby said now annoyed.

"yeah well they probably didn't look deep enough, i mean there's gotta be a way outta here," i said, trying to convince the leaders that i'm right. and just when newt was gonna reply, two people came in.

minho and gally.

"what are you doing here!?" gally said, clearly pissed that i'm here.

"well, me and thomas found something," i replied, crossing my arms.

"what did you find?" minho asked me and thomas.

"this device in the griever," thomas said, taking the device from newt and giving it to minho.

"what is it?" minho asked, looking deep into it.

"we don't know, but we think it can help us get outta here," i replied.

"and how do you know that?" gally said in an annoyed tone.

"because it's the closest thing anyone has found in over three years," i responded, now bickering with gally.

"this is just a stupid, metal device inside a griever," gally said.

"this is the first different thing anyone has found in a long time," i replied.

"well, what do you think minho?" newt asked.

"i think it's something different that no one has ever found before," minho said, passing the device to thomas and continuing.
