Emery's POV
"I want you back shortie."
What?
I- I didn't imagine that, did I?
"What did you just say?"
"You heard me, Emery. "
Them, BAM, reality hits.
"Wait wait wait wait wait, you say you want me back but yet here you are, on a date with the waitress?"
"It's not- it's not a date."
"Really? Because-" I'm cut off by Antonio and Martina walking out of the kitchen, now Antonio is wearing jeans and a t-shirt instead of his work clothes.
"Hi. Did we interrupt something?" Antonio asks, looking at Jake and me.
"We were actually talking-" I start but get cut off by Martina saying, "Oh! I have an idea! Why don't all four of us go to a cafe? It can be like a double date!" She claps.
I look at Jake then at Antonio. "I don't really think that's a good idea..."
"Oh come on! It'll be fun. I promise!" She pleads.
That's a very hard promise to keep, I think to myself.
Both Jake and Antonio are looking at me so can I really say no?
"Okay, I guess." I put on a fake smile but she buys it and opens the door to us.
She said that there's a perfect cafe not so far away from here so we just follow her. In total silence. Like, total silence. I don't think that it's awkward for them but it definitely is for me.
When we reach the place she walks in and greets the people who work there. They seem to know each other pretty well. She looks at us and waves us over to a table. Martina and Antonio take the seats next to each other so that only leaves me to sit next to Jake...
Antonio pulls out the chair for me and I give him a smile and a quiet thank you. Jake just glares at him. What a way to be nice.
"Soooooo... What is this?" Martina asks and points between me and Antonio.
We look at each other. "We're just getting to know each other Martina, calm down." Antonio laughs.
I nod in agreement but just a second later Jake asks, "What's her favorite movie?" And crosses his arms, leaning back on his chair.
"What?" Antonio looks confused.
"Her favorite movie. What is it?" He repeats.
"What's wrong with you?" I lean in and whisper.
He just gives me a quick look and then goes back to Antonio. "Favorite book? Color?"
"I-Ehm..." Antonio starts and scratches his neck. "We're just getting to know each other, okay?"
Jake looks at him a while longer then shifts his attention to the ground and mumbles something to himself. Trying to get this weird and awkward tension away I think of something to say but thankfully a waitress comes by and asks what everyone wants.
"I'll have a coffee, black." Antonio says and looks at Martina. "Same here."
The waitress turns her attention to me and Jake. "And for the two of you?"
"I'll have a chai latte please." I say. "I'll take a coffee too." Jake says. The waitress writes our order down on a piece of paper and then walks back to her station. All of us are just sitting here, looking at the ceiling or the floor. Should I be the first to talk? I mean, I can't make it worse, can I?
"So what's your plan?" I ask Antonio. "Any plans on college or something?"
"Actually, I'm taking over the restaurant after my parents." He smiles. "It's sort of a family tradition."
"That's so nice." I smile back.
"What's your plan?" He asks me.
"Oh, ehm... Well, I don't have everything figured out yet but as it looks right now I'm not going to college. I'm thinking of traveling, England is one of the places I want to go to. My grandmother lives there."
"Wow, didn't know that."
"I did." I hear Jake mutter under his breath.
"Yeah... But I guess I'll plan as I go."
Antonio nods along and the waitress comes back with our drinks. After some time of talking, I excuse myself and go to the toilet. That chai latte went straight through me. When I'm done I walk over to the sink and start washing my hands but when I'm about to take soap I see that the soap is empty. What do I do? I don't just want to walk out of here without washing my hands. I glance outside but I can't see any waiters. When I turn back Jake is standing in front of me.
"Jesus Christ, Jake!" I jump. "Don't scare me like that!"
"Sorry, I just-" He looks down at my hands. "Why are your hands wet?"
"The soap is empty." I point over to the sink.
"Oh. Wait here." He says and leaves.
Where is he going? I lean back on the sink and wait for him to come back. Why did he even come here? Maybe he wanted to use the toilet. Or maybe not. But why would he come in here if he didn't-
"Here-" He says and puts something on the sink. "New soap."
I look at him for a good while. "Thank you..." Why is he being so kind to me all of a sudden?
I walk over to the sink and wash my hands, all the while he's looking at me. Just silent and looking.
"You okay?" I ask and grab the towel.
"I'm fine." He says and goes back to just looking at me.
I look at him too, kind of awkwardly cause I don't know what the hell we're doing. "So... We should probably go back." I say and walk towards the door and open it.
He stops me. "Is someone coming this way?" He asks.
I look confusingly at him then back to the out. "No, why?"
He walks past me, closes the door and locks it. I stand silent, looking at him and wonder what he's doing. He turns back to me and swiftly lifts me up and puts me on the edge of the sink. He looks into my eyes then at my lips. Everything's happening so fast. I look at him too, trying to keep my breathing as normal as possible. I don't want him to think he still has some sort of power over me, when he clearly does. Without hesitation, his lips crash on mine.
"Fuck, I've waited a long time to do this." He says into my mouth.
I'm too busy taking everything in to reply.
This. This is heaven.
