This entire chapter seems to be talking of blindness: physical and spiritual. My grandfather was blind. He was not born so but it is hereditary. My mother too was severely myopic. When I was diagnosed with myopic vision I was twelve years old and I burst out crying. I was afraid I would become like my mother or worse my grandfather. By the grace of God I am not wearing my glasses while typing this right now. I had a fear of blindness. It is very hard for me to imagine life as someone born blind. This is before the age of braille. Being blind means to be born defective. It is seen as a sign of sin, of yourself or your ancestor. "Whose sin caused him to be born blind?" It is easier to blame. It is easy to paint the other person in unfavorable light. The point is not to see the bad in others but the goodness of God in everything. The Pharisees too saw the man's blindness as a mark of sin. But that blindness allowed the man to know God, to know the Son of Man. His eyes were opened, both physical and spiritual. The Pharisees however continued to be blinded by their own rituals and beliefs.

P.S. Jesus makes it a point to work on the Sabbath. God is always with us, even on Sundays.
