The world has been overcome on the cross with all its temptations and adversities. That doesn't mean that it stop existing. That means it doesn't have a reason to stop. The world knows where it is going. It is going towards hell. So why not enjoy the few moments of freedom left. It is up to us, the ambassadors of a heavenly kingdom to show another way, a better way. Hell is not the only thing offered to us.

When Jesus overcame sin at the cross, he paved the path towards heaven. It is not a pretty path. It is a narrow road, with a narrow wooden gate at the end. The path is probably even covered with sheep manure. We can either let the aesthetics of it put us off or we could believe and go through that narrow gate.

The problem is that most people would rather see a wide open door with disco lights and blaring music on the other end and a bouncer ready to be bribed at the door. At the sheep pen however Jesus himself became the bribe to let us in. We don't have to do anything else. It is his gift that he overcomes the world.

He is offering us peace and it , is not political peace or mental peace. Jesus is offering us peace with God. A reconciliation with the Almighty with whom we were separated by sin. Will you walk towards that sheep pen today? I know I will. Because though I don't know the music blaring inside or the mood and the atmosphere, I know the bouncer at the gate and I know the man who bribed him for me because they are the one and the same, my shepherd, my Jesus.
