Jesus is called the Prince of Peace but His coming to the World started a war on a massive scale. The war between good and evil is far from over and though the outcome is already determined on the cross the casualties rise each and everyday. Everyday souls are lost to anxiety, depression, insecurity, pain. Jesus says that He leaves His peace among us. But that peace is a choice. We have to choose to be peaceful. We have to choose to keep our focus on Him. That is not always easy.

It is not an act of faith. It is an act of helplessness. We do not rely on the peace that Jesus gives because we have faith that He is the Prince of Peace.  Ultimately we rely on Jesus because ultimately that is the only way. Are we failing as a believer if we choose Jesus as our last resort and not as our first response. Truth be told, that is what the world makes us believe. The world makes us believe that Jesus will be angry if we do not lean on him to begin with. However that is not the Jesus we know and love.

Another title used for Jesus is the Everlasting Father. A Father does not get offended if their child first tries to join their broken toy themselves before bringing it to him. If anything a father is amused at the child's effort and patiently waits. It is not different for our Everlasting Father. He waits patiently for us to give up and fall back to Him. Even after His resurrection He allowed Peter and the six disciples to go fishing. He waited all night to realize the futility of their efforts. Only in the morning, when the disciples were tired and hungry, did He appear to them with ready breads and baked fish. That is the peace of Jesus. It often comes after the storm. It often comes after we have accepted defeat and surrendered to His will.
