Chapter 9

MILA

"Lust and Desire"

My body freezes as Theo's gaze falls onto me.

"Were you fucking him just now?" His anger apparent in his voice. He tried lowering his tone, but the staff were already looking our way.

I straighten my posture to seem more assertive and scoff.

"When were you going to tell me about Ingrid?" I avoided his question.

Theo ran his hand through his hair. "Now isn't the time, Mila."

"Well it seems to me like it'll never be the right time." I gently shove him out of my way and join everyone back at the dinner table.

My mother looked over to me as I sat back down in my seat. Her eyebrows furrowed as she signaled to me to fix the back of my hair.

Unease ran through my body as I realized my mom probably just figured out I just got fingered in our bathroom.

Moments later, Theo engaged in our conversation about potential deals for work.

The rest of the night went by with laughter and music. I couldn't help but think about how Theo will be going home with her.

By the time Theo and Ingrid had left, it was near 11pm.

I was so desperate to avoid the awkward sex conversation with my mom that I accepted Elijah's invitation to go out with him tonight.

He lived in an apartment near campus with his best friend Enrique, he and I were friends before I met Elijah. He was the one to introduce us.

Our friendship hit a bit of a bump when I got cheated on and he didn't express any type of concern to my well-being.

I ran upstairs and grabbed clothes for classes tomorrow and an outfit to change into for tonight. I threw on a pair of plaid black and white shorts with a white tank top and a black zip up hoodie.

During the car ride, Elijah had insisted we go to a party, but I made it aware I was not dressed nor in the mood to get drunk, so instead I led him to the best ice cream shop in town and we talked most of the night.

I learned that his mother's Chemo Therapy is improving and she's responding well to medicine. Mrs. Hernandez has been plagued with lung cancer since Elijah was a child.

I couldn't imagine how hard growing up had been for him since his dad has left them once his mother was diagnosed, so he never had much of a father figure.

"So what's up in your life? Any special women?" I playfully ask trying to lighten the mood.

"No, I just really miss you, M. No girl I've encountered has even measured up to you."

I chuckled. "Maybe your standards are too high. I mean look at me." I pointed to myself.

Our conversations went on until I realized it was 2am. "We should go, Eli."

"Wanna come back to my place? I mean you already have clothes in my car for tomorrow." He noted.

"Yeah, but I have an early class in the morning and I know you don't get up until around eleven." I explained to him.
