Chapter 32

MILA

"When you wipe your tears, do you wipe them just for me?"

A cool breeze came through the air vents while I waited for Theo to sign us in.

We were late due to a meeting Theo had which was running for longer than expected.

This doctors office was specifically for pregnant women or people trying to get pregnant.

The woman next to me was about six months into her pregnancy. Her long, blonde hair flowing over her shoulders. We'd had a conversation about our growing babies.

She mentioned she had a three-year-old son that gave her absolute hell.

I was not ready for this.

Theo sat beside me, his hand locked with mine.

He gave me a hopeful look right before a worker called my name.

We walked down the hall, into an ultrasound room. Inside, the room was covered in baby facts and organs?

"Creepy." Theo muttered under his breath, and I gave him a death stare. He put his hands up in surrender, along with a smile.

"Dr. Bowie will be right with you guys." The lady said, leaving the room after sending me a friendly look.

"Dr. Bowie, baby? You're joking." Theo laughed.

"Hey, she was highly recommended on a baby forum. She switches between this place and the general hospital. When our little strawberry comes, it'll be delivered there."

Theo has me calling this baby a strawberry, I smiled to myself.

The door opened, and Dr. Bowie crept in. "Mila? Theo?" We both nodded. "Hi, I'm Dr. Bowie. How are you?"

"We're great, just trying to check on the little thing inside me," I said, and Dr. Bowie chuckled.

"Okay, it seems like you filled out all the necessary paperwork which is good, so we can get right to it. Have you seen it yet?"

Theo and I shook our heads at the same time. "No, we wanted to wait until we were both free to be there."

"Alrighty. Lift up your shirt for me please."

She put on purple gloves, then set up the ultrasound machine.

I looked around and my eyes found a motherhood poster. I smiled at the fact that soon, I'll be able to hold him or her.

"This is going to be cold."

Theo held his hand in mine once again, and I winced at the sensation.

All three sets of eyes went to the machine.

A black and white video appeared on the screen, and I began to tear up.

"This is real. We're having a baby." I looked up at Theo, who was still infatuated with the video.

"Do you want to hear the heartbeat?"

Theo and I nodded frantically.

The heartbeat sounded strong.

"Dios mío. It's beating so fast." I whispered.

"Yes. A baby's heartbeat is much faster than an adults. By the sound of it, he or she is happy and healthy." She grinned.

A smile appeared on Theo's face, and he clutched my hand tighter. "When can we find out the gender?" He asked the doctor.
