Eight weeks after the birth of Love

MILA

"Are you sure you don't need formula?" Said Theo through the phone from our local pharmacy.

"We have enough to last for a while," I replied, beginning to cradle Love in my arms.

She has my eyes and her father's smile.

"Mila, are you one hundred percent sure? Because tomorrow I don't want you complaining about how I didn't ask you beforehand,"

"Theodore, just buy the damn formula."

"Okay, baby." I could practically hear his smile through his words, "I'll be home soon. I love you."

I rolled my eyes, "I love you, too."

Hanging up the phone, I put it beside me on the chair armrest.

Love had such loving, caring eyes. The day she was born was one of the best days of my life. She was my smoothest pregnancy.

My thoughts were interrupted by quick footsteps that were growing closer by the minute.

Santi and Soren stood by the nursery doors, each boy on each side of the doorway. Their heads peaked through with their eyes looking curious.

They never want their little sister out of their sight, they want to protect her.

At first, I had to constantly remind them to be gentle and use their inside voices around her. Soon, they caught on and I no longer had to tell them any better.

"Mommy, is she sleeping?" Santi's quiet voice said.

"No, no. Come in. Both of you," I smiled.

They sprinted inside to get a closer look at her, then just stared at her.

"I wanna hold her, mommy." Santi said again, his eyes wide.

I looked down at him, "have you washed your hands?" He nodded. "Well come on."

I stood to let him sit in the chair, then gently placed her in his arms, his smile grew wider as she got into his arms.

Soren stood on side of the chair, slowly caressing Love's head full of hair.

Some said that the more hair your child has, the more heartburn you have, but I would have to disagree. Maybe it's different for other women, but for me, it was normal for all three of my children.

Santiago held Love for about four minutes before she started to whine. I picked her up, and told the boys to follow me into the kitchen.

I prepared her bottle while they both watched intensely.

"Santi, can you run warm water for your sister? And Soren, can you go get mommy's pink pillow?"

They both did as they were told. While they were doing those things, I sat her in her swing next to the island counter and waited for the boys.
