Allison

"Dad! Stop!" I pulled my Dad off of my Mom. He was drunk again. This shit always happened when he was drunk.
"Get the fuck back you little bitch! This doesn't concern you!" He pushed me against the wall. Hard.
"Lane! Leave her alone!" I heard my mom, Joyce, yell.

"Dad! I'm gay!" I shouted. I knew if I pissed him off enough he'd leave my mom alone.
"You're what?" He stood up and walked over to me.
"I'm gay. I like girls." I told him.

He reached back, and punched me in my face.
"Lane! Stop!" My mom screamed.
He kept hitting me, and kicking me.

"Get the fuck out of my house. Go pack a bag. You have ten minuets to get out before I kill you." He spat.

I quickly got up and ran upstairs, tears streaming down my face.
I packed as much as I could into my suitcase, and ran back downstairs and out the front door.

I'm fourteen years old, and homeless. Nowhere to go.
I took off walking, dragging my suitcase behind me.
It started raining, of fucking course. As if my day couldn't get any worse.
I picked up the pace, ignoring the throbbing in my head and the pain in my stomach.

I tripped over something, and fell to the ground.
"Fuck!" I screamed. I couldn't stop the sobs escaping from my body. I leaned back against the tree I was next to, and hugged my knees.

I heard a vehicle pull up, and my head shot up.

"Are you okay?" Asked a fire fighter from the engine.
I couldn't answer. I just sat there sobbing.

She got out, and rushed over to my side.
"Mija, are you okay?" The Latino woman asked.
"N-No." I stuttered out.

"Come on. Get on the truck with us." She stood up and helped me up.
"Captain! We're taking her back to the station!" She shouted as she helped me into the fire truck.

*At the station*

"Come on mija, let's get you into some new clothes." She helped me out of the fire truck.
"I'm sorry." I said as I tripped over my own two feet.
"Sweetie, you have nothing to be sorry for. I'm Andy by the way. Do you wanna tell me your name?" She led me into the locker room and grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a t shirt from a locker.
"Allison." I sniffled.
"Okay Allison. You can change into these over there." She pointed to another room.

I nodded, and went and got changed. They were warm, soft, and clean. I hadn't had clean clothes in God knows how long.

I walked out, and Andy was talking to a blonde lady.
"Hey Allison, my name is Maya. Do you wanna tell me why you were walking outside at two thirty in the morning, carrying a suit case?" Maya sat down on a bench.
I shook my head no, and hugged myself.

"How old are you sweet heart?" She asked gently.
"Fourteen." I quietly relied.
"Okay. Do you wanna come sit next to me?" She patted the spot next to her on the bench.

I walked over, and sat across from her.
"How about we try something. I tell you something about me, and you tell me something about you. Do you wanna try that?" She asked.
I nodded, and kept looking down at my hands.

"My favorite color is black, what's yours?"
"Red."
"That's my second favorite color. Okay, my favorite food is pizza."
"Mine too. But I only like cheese and mushrooms on mine."
"Hey, me too! My favorite movie is Practical Magic."
"Mine too." I sniffled.
"That's so crazy! See, we have a lot in common." She smiled at me.
I gave her a small smile back.

"Okay. So, do you wanna tell me what happened now?"
"My Dad kicked me out." I whispered.
"What's your Dad's name sweetheart?"

"Lane. Lane Bishop."
