"I don't think I can make it today." His voice rang through your ears as you struggled to get up from your bed. "Jay got us lost after we went fishing." He explained as you heard Jay yell out "Sorry!" in the background.
"Don't worry about it Jake." You huffed as as you put your blankets over your head, hiding from the sunshine that shined through the windows beside your bed. "I think I can manage today."
"You've been saying that for over two years now," He said through the phone, sighing at how you were acting. "It's obvious that you're still not over Sunghoon."
Your grip on the phone tightened, as the name slipped off his tongue. It had already been two years after your break up with Sunghoon, but it still hurt like it was the same day every year.
"Niki's on his way though." Jake reassured you as you twirled the ends of your hair with your fingers. "He insisted on staying with you today."
"That's what you call living life on the edge." You said laughing at how Niki insisted on coming, knowing damn well what usually went down during this time of the year.
It was your anniversary with Sunghoon, but not when you two first got together, but when you two called it off.
He led you to your usual spot, where you two walked side by side with the small waves crashing by your feet.
You felt his ice cold hand, worrying about him, but it wasn't him you should've been worried about, it should've been your relationship.
"It's quite chilly today don't you think?" You looked up at the boy who had his eyes on the sea, as if trying to find where it ends. "And your hand is too."
"It's not just my hand," He said quietly, still not looking at you. "But also us too."
Your heart fell as you heard the words come out of his mouth, your feet froze as if you were slowly being pulled into the damp sand.
"What?" You stuttered, you couldn't comprehend what he meant. "What do you mean 'also us'?" You said as you tried to hold back your tears, knowing what was about to come out of his mouth next.
"Let's take a break."
You remembered it like it was yesterday, holding your chest as you silently shed a few tears on your bed. Even though you were okay during the rest of the year, this day always made you cry.
