"If you can't handle that," You breathed out, with tears streaming down your face as you and Jeno crouched on your knees in the middle of your apartment complex's playground. "Maybe we should take a break." You said, making his heart crumble.
"What do you mean?" He said with a shaky voice, looking up at you with pleading eyes. "I'm sorry I thought that it was just not that big of a deal, I should've been more thoughtful of your feelings too." He tried to apologize, holding onto your hands that were supporting you from the ground.
"We've been doing this for ages Jeno," You said closing your eyes, making the last few tear drops fall onto the Earth's crust. "I'm so tired."
Memories of last night replayed in your mind, as you silently sat in the university quad, observing the students who happily passed by as it was your university's welcome week.
"Where's Jeno?" Jaemin asked as he happily approached you, handing you a glass of strawberry lemonade that he got from the booths. "Wasn't he supposed to spend today with you?" He nonchalantly inquired, not knowing what happened between you two last night.
"Change of plans." You huffed, trying not to seem distant towards your ex, with Jaemin not really noticing as he was too absorbed in his burrito.
"Fuck!" He said as he rummaged through the paper bag he brought with him, looking for the sauces that came with his meal. "They forgot to give me Hot Sauce." He sadly remarked, making you smile at how he sulked.
"Are you watching the festival with someone later?" You asked the boy who sat beside you, happily enjoying this meal even without his favorite sauce. "I want to come too, but it would be boring if I went alone."
"Jeno texted me earlier actually," He said after swallowing the big bite he had. "He asked me to stay with you today, so that's why I came to find you."
Even though you called it quits last night, Jeno still had you on his mind. Just because you wanted to end it with him, doesn't mean he lost his feelings for you. Maybe even making it stronger, as he finally felt how it was to lose someone you actually loved.
And the same goes for you, you were just tired last night, tired of how you two struggled these past few months. Maybe it took a toll on you, or maybe you were just so tired last night that you wanted to be alone, but one thing was for sure, and that was that you still loved Jeno.
