Batman: Knight of Vengeance - The Final Chapter

Part VIII - Enemy

The Batmobile roars through the streets of Gotham, as Superman and Wonder Woman fly above the vehicle, keeping an eye out for any other villains that might be heading their way. Whoever the leader is behind this attack, they're heading to Wayne Manor. The decrepit abandoned building that Thomas pushed out of his life long ago, preferring the Belfry and his penthouse to the dusty old Batcave he used to operate in.

But if this person is heading there, they must know something about him. But who are they...

"Thomas, is there anything down in the cave that you might've left that they could be searching for?" Diana says as she flies next to the windshield.

"No. I made sure to clear out anything of value. All that's in there is broken guns and a Batmobile prototype that nobody could get working. There's no power source in it either."

"So...what do you think this means?"

"It means they aren't there for the cave. They want to make a statement, and they want me to hear it."

Eventually the car screams through the front gates of the manor, crashing through them and tearing them open as if they were made of paper. As soon as he reaches the courtyard, he jumps out of the car, pulling his pistols out and starting to survey the area, no sign of trouble right now.

"Kal, you're sure they were heading up here?"

"Yes on my life. She was standing about right here giving directions."

"...Ambush."

Suddenly a bolt of lightning cracks and knocks Superman out of the sky, as from the main entrance to the manor steps out Teth-Adam, Maxima, and the mystery figure. She nods at Adam as another lightning bolt hits the car and causes it to short out and eventually explode, knocking Batman off his feet.

"So glad you could finally join us. I almost thought I wasn't making it obvious enough."

The mystery figure starts walk down the steps, closer towards Batman. Wonder Woman tries to intervene but Maxima stops her.

"My plight isn't with you two as much as it is him. Leave me to kill him and I promise you both will be spared as well, that includes you Diana of Themyscira, despite all the atrocities you've waged on Earth."

Diana stops struggling as the guilt of all those dead from the war settles in again, as Superman starts to get up. Before Adam can fire another shot of lightning, Kal free fires his heat vision, waving his head up in order to attempt to hit something. He hits Maxima and causes her arms to catch on fire. In all the confusion, Diana takes the opportunity to get the jump on Maxima, and manages to crack her neck while she isn't focused.

The mystery figure turns to Adam, obviously angry that he didn't stop that when he was able to. They pull out some sort of red whip from their belt, lashing it out and making the energy rope wrap around his neck and pulls him in, stabbing him with a Themysciran sword.

Batman stands up as he watches in both confusion and curiosity as the rest of the Ternion stands up next to him.

"Who are you..." He demands, pulling his arm socket back into place from the blast.

The masked figure pulls their cloak off to reveal themselves as Fury, Donna of Themyscira, daughter of Wonder Woman...and of Batman.
