I feel....relaxed.
I feel....free.
My schedule is clear and.....
My eyes shot open to the blazing sound of my alarm. I turned my head to look at my clock.
7:15.
Snap! I had fifteen minutes to get out the door for school. I ripped off my blankets and ran into the washroom. No time to shower.
Ew.
I quickly brushed my teeth, and began to make my way back to my room, when I stopped mid-tracks.
I'm forgetting something. I know I'm forgetting something.- I thought.
Just then, my brother's door opened.
Jordan! Snap.
"Thanks for waking me up, sis." He said.
"I'm so-"
"Whatever."
He brushed past me and went downstairs. I watched him go,then remembered the time.
Snap!
I rushed to my room and grabbed the easiest thing in my closet. Denim jeans, with a white tank top, and a navy blue and white sweater jacket. I walked to my mirror and did my default hairstyle. Bun.
"Bree, come on. We need to leave." Dad called from what sounded like the door.
I looked at the time.
7:28.
Aaahhh!
I grabbed my backpack, ran down the stairs, almost tripping over myself, and grabbed the house keys with less than a minute to spare when I got to the front door.
"This can't keep happening, Bree." He said.
"Yea, sorry dad, my alarm went off late."
"And that's my problem?"
He opened the door, and we went into the car. I looked into the rear-view mirror, and saw Miles. My best friend, Miles, who lives, literally, across the road from me. The greatest guy in the universe of all universes. What was shocking was...he could actually see me through my side mirror, and waved.
Oh, my gosh. How can he see me??? I waved back shyly.
"Bree!!" My dad yelled.
Snap. Dad was calling me this whole time.
"Yes, dad?"
"Put your seat belt on, are you deaf?"
"Sorry." I said, while putting my seat belt on.
He pulled back out of the driveway, and I saw him through my side window. He was leaning on his mom's car, tapping his wrist watch.
"You're late." His lips read.
"You're no better." I said back.
He laughed, put his hands in his pockets, and went into his house. That's when my dad changed gears, and we were off to school.
•••
Now, I don't know how this could have possibly worked out, but I saw both Jordan and Miles get to school before I did. How? I got out of the car, after my dad and I exchanged "I love yous" and saw Jordan walking into the school. He saw me, and cut his eye.
Ouch.
As soon as I locked eyes with Miles, he smirked. I smiled and cut my eye, walking to my locker.
I put in my combination, and opened my locker, which was immediately slammed shut by the only person who had that much guts.
"Hello to you too, sir." I said.
"Annie." He said.
"Don't call me that. Oh, my gosh; how many times do I have to tell you that?"
"As many as you want, but I won't stop."
"So I can call you Smiles again, right."
"Ummm, no. You can't."
I opened my locker and took out my school books.
"As long as I'm Annie, you'll always be Smiles." I closed my locker, and started to make my way to class. He followed.
"So you're walking me to class?" I said.
"Do you want me to?"
"Umm, I thought it was obvious."
"Alright, alright princess."
We turned a corner, and just steps away was my class. He stopped walking, and I turned around to face him.
"We're here." I said.
"I can see that." He said.
"Well...bye."
I turned to walk away, but he grabbed my arm.
"You're forgetting my hug, Annie. You're always forgetting my hug. Where's my hug? I still don't feel you. Annie..."
I hugged him, just to shut him up. I squeezed him tight, and he did the same. I love his tight hugs.
I think it was twenty seconds later when we let go of each other. I looked at him and smiled. He did the same. I waved goodbye, and he gave a quick head bob, then turned and went on his way. I sighed....then went into my class.
