Church ended around two hours later. It was the usual. The secretary made her announcements, we prayed, we read our bibles, we gave our offering and tithes, the choir sang- not the choir I'm on- which by the way, did a pretty good job, and the preacher preached, "Don't Mess With God's Glory". It was pretty good. It made an impact on the congregation. Even got me moving a bit.
I have a quiet spirit, when it comes to going about it church. I'm not like everyone else who runs the aisles and across the alter, or disrupts the pews and whatness. I do speak in tongues- also known as "other languages"- the language that not just anyone would understand or translate- I do worship, a little "hallelujah" here and there. I tend to stay in I my seat. I mean, don't get me wrong, I do get a little quickening here and there like everyone else. I'm just not...loud...if that's the right way to put it.
I sat in one of the lounge chairs in the foyer waiting to leave, while everyone else was walking around, socializing, and buying patties. So far, so good with avoiding the girls I hang out with...until five seconds later.
Maggie came up to me, straight faced. I can always count on Maggie never to come to me peppy when I'm chilled. It's just so annoying.
"Hey." She said, sitting on a lounge chair next to me.
"Hey." I said.
"What's up with you? You weren't sitting with us today."
"Yea, I wanted space today."
"Well, I know that. Camille and Keisha are the ones to worry about."
"Just my luck." I mumbled to myself.
They were just on their way up to me.
"Where the heck were you?" Camille said, narrowing her eyes at me.
"Yea, you went M.I.A. Where were you?" Keisha added.
"I was sitting in the back." I said.
"Why?" They both said.
"What do you mean why? 'Cause I wanted to."
Camille rolled her eyes.
"'Kay."
I cut my eye at her and crossed my legs.
"I didn't see Kyle today." Maggie said.
"Yea, he wasn't here Thursday either." I said.
"I'll text him right now." Keisha said, taking out her phone.
"Oh, how's my baby boo? He wasn't here either." Camille said.
Camille has loved Miles for almost four years. He knows...he ignores it though. He already friend zoned her, but she can't take a hint.
"He's fine."
"How did the birthday go?" Maggie said.
"It was...entertaining."
"What'd y'all do?" Camille said, suspiciously, like I'm trying to steal her 'boyfriend'.
"That's between me and 'baby boo'" I smirked.
Everyone but Camille laughed.
"That's not funny, really." She said.
Still laughing, all of a sudden, Keisha's phone rang.
She checked her caller ID.
"It's Kyle." She said.
"Oh, put him on speaker." Maggie said.
She obeyed.
"Heeey." We all said into the phone.
