Chapter Nine:

"Ow" I whimpered as I grabbed my aching head.

How am I back in my apartment?

I looked around, I was in my own bed and the curtains on my window were left open. The moonlight from the overhead full moon spilled out into the room illuminating everything in an unnatural glow.

I stared at the moon as if pulled in by its majestic beauty. It hung directly in front of my window, almost as if it were watching me. It glittered and glowed against the black velvet sky blanketed with tiny diamond crumbs.

I slipped out of the tangled bed sheets that grabbed onto my clammy legs. I felt a shiver run down my spine as my skin suddenly felt too tight and stretched over my own bones.

What time is it? I wondered dazedly as my eyes flickered over to the small alarm clock. Bright unforgiving blue numbers stared back at me.

11:59.

I clamped my hand over my mouth as I felt myself gag. My gut clenched and my throat started to burn as tears blurred my vision. I leaped up but my legs crumpled under me. I gagged again as I curled myself into a ball. My whole body started to pulse in agony. Waves upon waves of nothing but torture. I felt myself starting to whimper but let out an agonized scream as another wave washed over me.

Breathe Skyler! You have to calm down! I heard Alicia's voice scream in my mind.

"What's happening to me?" I sucked in a breath and sobbed out loud as another wave hit me.

You're transforming, Alicia answered. It will only feel like this once.

Once?! I screamed as I heard a sickening snap. My breath started to come out in quick little puffs as fear washed over me.

Oh God . . . I hiccupped as a series of snaps! and cracks! resounded throughout the room each one welcoming a new, more painful wave of agony to settle on top of me, suffocating me.

Skyler you need to concentrate, Alicia pushed in my mind. This will be over soon. But you need to concentrate to get through this.

I ignored her as a new sensation blanketed me. My skin began to itch as if thousands of tiny ants were marching across my body. I went to move but my body ached so badly as if someone took the broadest and dullest knives they could find and dug them into my bones as hard as they could. Tears dropped down my face as my eyes began to sting. A series of pops followed as pain exploded in my mouth. Blood began to dribble as I realized I had sliced my tongue somehow. But that pain felt like a feather touch compared to the rest of what my body was experiencing.

I held back a scream as I felt my skin ripping and my bones breaking. I curled in on myself as I felt my eyes sting and my organs clench in a sickening twist. My heart pulsed and hammered in my ears as my blood began to boil and then freeze in my tattered veins.

With one last sickening snap! my vision faded and I sunk into soothing darkness.

-Yler!

I twitched.

Skyler!

I curled myself into a ball, willing the annoying voice to go away.

SKYLER! I yelped at the force of the voice in my head. Get up.

I obeyed and pushed myself off the floor, weary of the pain that might follow suit.
