Chapter Eleven:

Damon's POV

My eyes followed her as we walked down the long hallways. Her scent calling out to me even stronger than it had the last time I had seen her. I felt my canines elongate at the idea of marking her, claiming her as mine and mine alone.

I felt myself losing control as the need to just reach out and touch her overwhelmed me, making me move closer to her. Subconsciously my hand reached out to cup the back of her neck, a sign of possession with my kind, and pull her close to me, but I pulled back. I needed to be patient. She was a fighter, she would have to come to me first.

"What's your name?" I asked, breaking the awkward silence and my frustrating thoughts.

"You mean, you haven't already heard of the infamous destroyer?" She asked somewhat disgusted and embarrassed. I felt my stomach knot at the way she looked. Her head down, arms crossed, and a frown pulling down on her face, her brilliant green eyes dark with disgust.

Wait, green? I thought as I looked at her a second time. I racked my brain from the last time I had seen her. How could I forget the way her confident brown eyes had stared defiantly at me? What had happened to her? Was this a side effect of the Legendary gift? I thought back to the time in the gym, where her awakening had been displayed for all. I felt the jealousy hit me as I remembered how the other prince's had stared at her like a piece of meat. My mind flipped back to how the vampire prince had carelessly touched her and gifted her with the pendant she now wore. Would she wear something I could obtain for her?

"My name is Skyler." she answered, moving a bit farther away from me, lengthening the gap between us. That irritated me. She could stand to be around the vampires but not I?

"What kind of name is Skyler?" I asked a bit of frustration leaking out into my tone. I felt my panther sigh and roll over at my lame, provoking question.

She looked at me, eyebrows raised, a challenge gleaming in her eyes. "A better name than Damon." She said as she smiled. "Isn't that the name of the guy with the weird eyes in Vampire Diaries?" She giggled, her mood starting to lighten.

I felt my confident smile falter, . "Don't even start with that, okay!" I huffed back, feeling somewhat shocked and embarrassed for the first time. No one had ever said that to me before, and somehow, I liked it. I found myself starting to want to monopolize her more and more. "I have gotten nothing but grief about that ever since that show first came out!"

"I'll have you know, you are making fun of the ruling kingdom's first prince!" I shot back half heartedly, feeling a bit more at ease with her usual sarcastic side back.

"I'm not really making fun of your name . . . haha, I'm just pointing out you have the same name as the crazy eyed dude in the Vampire Diaries." She laughed as we stepped outside. The sun glinted off her deep brown hair, illuminating her shining green eyes and perfect smile.

An angel, I felt myself think, a genuine smile pulling at my lips. God has sent me an angel.

"So which one is your car?" She asked as we walked out towards the parking lot. I grabbed my keys and swung them around my index finger, my eyes roaming the parking lot.

"The black one," I said as I started to walk away, loving the fact that she followed close behind.

"So, there's like fifty different black cars, so you're going to have to be more specific." She giggled as she slowed her pace so she was walking a bit farther behind me.
