Now, without further ado . . .
Chapter 24:
“It’s time to see if you were really worth the wait.” Reed sighed as he turned to a set of computers.
I remained sprawled out on the cold, merciless floor, my shoulder and sides still throbbing from the impact of being shoved into the claustrophobic room. It was florescent white, computers and scanners shoved into an organized web of chaos. A gleaming metal door was placed next to a large window looking into what seemed like a sunken maze set up in an abandoned warehouse.
“What is that room?” I asked eyeing the door.
“Can you not tell what a training chamber is?” He bit out irritably, his tone rubbing me the wrong way.
“Why are you so angry? You act like I just shit in your shoes or something.” I snapped, not liking the way he was treating me. Hell he wasn’t even looking at me!
He whipped around, veins becoming prevalent in his purpling face. “That! That vulgar language, the way you behave! It’s like babysitting an overgrown child!” He spits, finally losing his cool.
“Overgrown child?!” I gasp. “I’m seventeen years old! I am not some overgrown child!”
“You are a baby to our standards!” He grinds out. “A mere child acting out the part of a spoiled brat!
“That’s rich, especially coming from someone dressed up in a medieval costume who can’t seem to pull their head out from their puckered butt!” I shout back while pushing myself off the floor. “But then again, if my head was as far up as yours, I don’t think I could pull mine out either.”
“Why I never!” He gasps before he marches over to me, his face getting closer to mine. “I-” he scoffs, whipping around to compose himself. “Incredible! I have never met a creature as infuriating as you.”
“I’ll take that as a complement.” I smile, noticing the way his onyx eyes tighten in agitation.
“I’m sure you will.” He hisses as he takes a seat at the computer screens. I stay in my corner of the room, silently fuming from the little argument while Reed steadily types on that weird computer like device.
“What element are you strongest in?”
“What?” I asked, puzzled by the question. “What do you mean by that?”
“Surely you jest.” Reed sighs as he shakes his head, laughing in uncontrolled frustration. “You don’t even know what element you are strongest in?”
