Ferrer's POV
"When I said we should hang out, I didn't think it will be outside the principal's office." I gazed at Terrence. He didn't look up. He kept his eyes cast towards the floor.I was surprised to get a call from his school today. They didn't say what is wrong they just asked if I'm his dad. When H said yes, they asked me to come to the school.
When I was in school, I never got in trouble. I was too busy doing extra ti get ahead in class sometimes too much that I embarassed a few teachers. When I got in trouble it was over being too smart for my own good. I sat on the bench beside him. We faced the principal's door. He turned his head to look at me. He has a black eye.
"I'm sorry. Mom would have had a meltdown. I didn't need that. I told them to call you. I told them you're my dad. Is that alright?"
I touched the top of his head gazing at the black eye. It's nothing some ice won't fix. "I'm not mad. It's the truth. I am your dad. Honestly I'm so happy you called me instead of your hot-headed mother." He laughed. "Don't tell her I said that. So give me the details. What happened?"
"Some kid called me an orphan."
I sighed resting my back against the wall. I got plenty of that along with demeaning remarks that no one will ever love me or my parents thought I'm trash. That's the problem with most trust fund brats. They feel entitled to belittle others and it's not that they are living a fairytale. "Why would they say that?"
"Because mom never shows up for anything. When she does she's late or she starts a fight with a teacher. I stopped telling her about stuff in school."
"Okay." I squeezed his shoulder. "I'll get in there."
I knocked once and let myself in. The principal looks like any other private school principal, like a prude.
"And you are ..."
"Ferrer Cavaleiro, I'm Terrence's father."
"Oh. I see. Please have a sit. Wait, I know who you are. You're the famous doctor!"
"Thank you. So what is happening?"
"I'll start by saying that Terrence is an exceptional student. He does very well in class. He's not big on participation. But he does well nothing short of a B+." That is my brain right there. In fact he beats my record. The worst grade I have ever got is a B-. It was shortly after Catherine's death. "We have high hopes for his academic future."
"Then what is the problem?"
"We have noticed a difference in behavior lately. It's slight but it's noted. Of course he isn't outgoing especially with making friends but he has really been on his own of late. We are concerned especially because of his outburst today."
"What happened today?"
"He attacked Prescott Summers."
"What you are trying to say is my son suddenly and out of the blue attacked some kid."
"His father is a big shot and-"
"What has that got to do with anything? My son is not violent. He wouldn't attack someone unprovoked. Where is this Preston-"
"Prescott."
"Where us he? I don't see him in here. Did you ask him what he said to my son?"
"He was minding his business when Terrence attacked him. We have zero tolerance on violence."
"Did you see this confrontation?"
"No. Prescott said-"
"Terrence says he was provoked. I trust my son. I don't know who Prescott is. I do stand by him. Get that other kid in here. Let him day it to my face that he was attacked without doing anything wrong and we can go from there. I'm not accepting anything less than that."
