A/n: Finally... We are back here. I am on the homestretch with this book. I can't wait to wrap it up.

Just a recap...
-Katya found out she's pregnant.
-Katya and Federov made it official and became a couple.
-Ferrer knows he's about to be a father again.

Ferrer POV
"Thank you for meeting with us Doctor Cavaleiro. It's been a while. We trust you have been well."

"I'm good." I answered.

"I'm not man of may words. We want you back." The Dean explained. "It goes without saying that the hospital was doing well under your care. If you accept, we want to offer you the Chief of Surgery post."

I tapped my fingers on the table. They are all looking at me expectantly. My successor has made a mess of things. He can't manage the hospital. I hate to admit it but I learned how to manage people from Nick. He has a system that keeps him from micromanaging and having to be around all the time. I followed his system and successfully became the youngest Chief this hospital has ever seen. But there were challenges. The older surgeons who like to play god were not and are still not my biggest fans.

I miss my job as Chief of Surgery. But in its absence I have a lot of Tim to spend with my son. We are getting closer by the day. We can't trade the time we spend with each other for anything else. An hour a day is our rule. We never miss it. If I take this job, that is gone. I won't have time for Terrence.

"I'm grateful and honored that you want to offer it back to me but my answer is no."

I walked out leaving them surprised.

I stopped practicing medicine.

It was a voluntary decision after Leonid had my hand smashed. The doctor assured me it's healed and I can even operate in a few weeks but I'm not interested anymore. Something about my experience in that prison broke me. I'm not the same man. I don't have the same ambitions.

"Doctor Cavaleiro, wait please." The Dean never chases after anyone.

I feel special.

"Yes?"

"How much? If the salary is a problem, how much do you want?"

"Money is not the issue."

"Are you starting a private practice?"

"Not in the near future. I just want to focus on what is on my plate right now."

"At least come back and practice medicine."

I looked around the place. Below the bridge we are standing on, I see all the doctors and nurses I used to work with busy being life savers.

I just don't feel the same way anymore.

"Thank you for the offer. I'm sorry but I won't come back."

"At least think about it."

I don't intend to but if it ends the conversation, fine.

Several doctors and nurses stopped me to greet me. When I was their boss, they hated me for being on their case. I don't think I was a fussy boss but sometimes, some people get on your nerves and you become that guy.

"Chief."

"Retired, fired, something... Not Chief." I corre the older woman. She's an obstetrician.

"Whatever floats your boat. You'll forever be the best Chie I have seen in the thirty years I have dedicated to this hospital. You stayed out of people's business."
