One Year, that's what they agreed upon. That's why she worked so hard to please him. That's why she did everything in her power to help him and his people. So she could live her second life, the way she wanted. In peace.

One Year, they promised each other. To live a life as husband and wife.
One Year, to convince everyone that they were a loving couple.
One Year, to gather information on his enemies.
One Year, to gather as much support and power from the royal court to his side.
One Year, of playing pretend and fooling the whole Kingdom of their fake love story.
Little did she know, it only took One Year for him to fall in love with her.
Will he keep to his word of One Year? Or go back on it and break their promise?

One Year brought me to an emotional rollercoaster ride. Though I wouldn't say this is a perfect book, it's still an awesome read and worth rereading sometime again in the future in my opinion.

I would also like to say that webnovel users and/or C-Novel fans would love this book like I do. The story is set in a parallel fantasy-like world where its system, norms, culture are like that of the Asians (more like the Chinese's).

That aside, I am in awe of the male lead, Ryu. At first he was such a mood that made me want to pull on my hair. But, I'm not saying I hate his character or anything. I'd like to say that I wouldn't judge a character so fast and instead, wait until the end of the book or at least until halfway and hope for development as well. So the more I read the story, the more I came to realize that he is an easily misunderstood character. He's the type who had been through so much that he can't deal with his feelings well at first. This is where I wish there was more characterization of him, or like, more exposure of his past experience (or maybe POVs too) – to show his side of the story, to connect with the readers in a way or another... I guess that's also why he was easily misunderstood by some other readers.

Anyway, his character growth was something I was hoping for and he really did not disappoint! Massive thumbs up for his development. Not only did he learn to be honest with his feelings, he also came to be aware of his lack of giving. That's why I was so in awe of him when he finally stepped up his game and fight to be someone deserving of Siri. I loved the fact he knows that Siri had done so much for him and his people and that he wanted to return as much to Siri - giving as much to keep his promises and words. In the end, he indeed did not disappoint and became someone admirable and respectable. He got better and better as the story progressed.

Speaking of female lead, Siri came from Earth. After she died, she mysteriously occupied a female's dead body in this alternate world who also happens to share the same given first name with her. Hence, the transmigration tag. I love her character so much. Totally different from other fml because of her shamelessness, courage. She is one intelligent and funny person, and intimidating as well when provoked. She never cease to amaze me. Befitting as a phoenix indeed because of her formidable and strong character.

On a side note, the medical practices here are sort of different from reality despite the female lead coming from Earth. Because it isn't my field of expertise, I didn't put much attention to it unlike the other readers who are medical practitioners. Regardless, it's not the main focus of the story.

If I must say, this was a wonderfully satisfying experience. Author did a good job for this piece. Even if the 'female lead curing the crippled male lead' concept is sort of generic in C-Novels, the story is still good, especially when Siri was also searching the cure for her illness (I guess it's what makes it different from other story with the similar concept). I'd say it's a beautiful tear-jerker mainly because of Siri. This story, I'd definitely would come back to reread sometime again in the future.

Check out One Year and give it a chance if it interests you!

< Iconic/Memorable lines in One Year >

"You should thank all your lucky stars and all the Gods that you met me."
-

Siri

"Don't leave this Prince's side. Not even for a moment. You once said that I am the Captain that everyone relies on and that you have tied your life boat to my ship. There's one thing you have to change in that sentence. I may be the Captain, but you are my compass. It is you that guides us through the open sea to safety. It is you that gives me hope and guides me on the right course."
-

Ryu

"Happy?"
"Em."
"Having fun?"
"Em. Aren't you?"
"As long as Wife is having fun. Husband is having fun as well."
