Watching my Life Crumble

I let out a stressed laugh as I left the room in a panic. The ninja decided not to follow me, probably thinking I just needed a second to be alone.

Instead of basking in solitude, however, I grabbed my backpack and began frantically packing whatever small amounts of stuff I could grab.

I had made my decision. These people had become my friends despite the circumstances and I refused to cause them more misfortune than I already had.

I felt my heart stop as footsteps approached my room.

  I gotta get out quick.

I fumbled with trying to see if the window opened. Then realized the port window does not open.

So I grabbed my alarm clock and threw it through the window.

There was a knock at my door.

"Y/n? Can I come in?" Zane asked.

I panicked and my hands started shaking as I hoisted myself up and dangled my feet through the widow. "Uh no just a sec," I yelled.

Once I was dangling out of the window I dropped down. I free fell for a bit before hitting the ground and quite effectively breaking both of my fucking legs.

"Oh gods," I whisper-yelled, fearful that the people aboard the ship may be able to hear me.

Unable to move due to not only the pain I was in, but also the nausea I was undergoing, I laid in the long grass and stared up at the ship. I could faintly hear Jay calling my name and knew immediately that if I didn't get out of there soon, that he'd find me.

I did my best to sit up without screaming and propped myself up against a tree as I started using my power to heal my legs.

"Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit," I mumbled. It burned slightly.

I jumped when I heard yelling from up in the ship and rushed to finish healing my legs before running in the first direction that I noticed trees in. If anything, they'd help hide me from the ship.

I quickly climbed a tree that looked sturdy enough and looked back at the ship. There were already roped being thrown over the side and I could just barely make out Cole descending from the first one.

  "Gods dammit."

Jumping from the lowest branch, I ran off again. I made a downhill trail, looking for water. If I could find water, I could probably find a town to hide in.

My mind was buzzing and I could barely focus on what I was seeing.

About five minutes in I realized it was really hot. Like I was sweating my absolute balls off in the heat.

Hey in my defense I usually did my running around at night and not in the sun.

I nearly slipped and fell when I ran over some wet stones in a creek I passed. Then, after having passed the creek for a solid minute I realized I needed to follow the water so I turned around and ran back.

It was just in time, too because as I began my journey down the stream, I could hear the supposedly stealth bred ninjas yelling to one another from a distance.

Whether it was a coincidence or a plot device I don't know, but the creek was deep and swift enough for me to float down, so I settled my stuff on my stomach and floated down on my back. I figured that if anything, it would make me harder to see.

I'm not sure how long I floated down stream for, but by the time I reached any sign of civilization the sun was far past it's highest point and I was absolutely starving.

I turned and paddled to the nearest bank and crawled out, looking around. There was a dirt road up a little ways from where I was, and on the other side I saw an apple tree. None of the fruit was even remotely ripe, so I moved on.

Nearby the apple tree were some wild strawberries, which I popped in my mouth to combat the dryness. They weren't much but they helped.

After eating as many strawberries as I could find, I decided to walk down the road. The fact that it was a dirt road just went to prove that I could still be miles away from any towns or even houses in general.

  "Greaaat," I sarcassed to myself.
