To say the least, I was caught off guard by Jay's sudden kiss, but next thing I knew, I had wrapped my arms around him and given in to it. It was a lot more gentle than Kai's, and a lot more pleasant for me.

That was until Jay moved one of his hands to my waist and rested it on the place where Kai had bruised me. Even the small amount of pressure on the bruise hurt in an unpleasant, dull ache.

I hissed, but tried to keep my obvious reaction from being too obviously obvious.

"Shit, did I hurt you?" Jay asked. His eyes moved down to where his hands had been just seconds before.

My head was fuzzy, so it took me a few minutes to realize and understand what he had just said to me.

I closed my eyes and shook my head. "No," I said, "There's just a bruise there is all. It's nothing."

"Wait, when did you get a bruise?" Jay looked concerned, "Is it bad? Why didn't you bring it up?"

"Well I got it a while ago and no it's not that bad."

"But how did you get it?"

  I hesitated "...The sssnake guyyy."

"Oh really?" Jay looked skeptical. "I doubt that."

"Why do you doubt me, good sir?" I tried to change the subject by making a stupid joke.

  "Y/n, you hesitated. You're a terrible liar."

I hung my head. "Kai." I whispered it, "but then when we went into battle I got hit there and it made it worse"

"Wait, wait, wait, what did Kai do?" Jay moved his hands to my shoulders to keep me from trying to escape the awkward situation.

"Um... he... kissed me," I looked down at the floor, embarrassed.

"He...what?" he looked upset and I was praying to my sweet deity that he wouldn't confront the fire ninja right then.

  "He-"

"And he hurt you?" Jay's hands tightened on my arms and I bit my lip in worry.

"W-well to be fair I got hit during battle," I was trying my hardest to calm Jay's obvious anger.

"But maybe it wouldn't be so bad if that dickwad didn't hurt you!" Jay was shouting now.

I frantically tried to shush the man before he woke up everyone on the ship.

Jay ran one of his hands through my hair and sighed. "Y/n,  I care about you, ok? I don't want you to get hurt,"  Jay rested his hands on my waist and looked at me seriously.

"But... why do you even care? I mean it was just one kiss and then he let me go," I avoided eye contact.

"I care... I care cause- oh fuck it." Jay quickly tipped my chin up and pressed his lips to mine once more.

To say the least, I was surprised, but it wasn't unpleasant and I soon found myself leaning against the kitchen counter and sighing. My hands instinctively found their way to the side of Jay's face, with my thumbs rubbing against the hook of his jaw.

Jay's hands moved up and down my sides carefully, mindful of the bruise, until he squeezed me just hard enough to lift me up and sit me down on the counter. His hands moved down to my legs and moved them apart just enough to allow him the room to stand between them.

"Jay, I..." I whispered into the darkness, running my hands through his hair.

Jay pulled back, cheeks flushed and just barely biting his lip. "You... What?" He asked, eyebrows furrowed in slight confusion.

"I want to thank you... for caring about me. It's been a while," I looked at the floor and blushed.

Jay looked at me through half-lidded eyes, "I couldn't not care about you," he said, and continued to kiss me.

He slowly moved me off of the counter and wrapped my legs around him. Supporting my weight with his arms, he walked out of the kitchen and down the hall to my room.

I reached behind myself and opened the door with one hand, and Jay walked in still carrying me. I wrapped my arms tightly around him and pressed my face into the crook of his neck in a tired hug.

Jay walked me over to my bed and laid me down, covering me in my blanket.

"Goodnight, Y/n," he said, kissing me before he turned to walk out of my room.

"Goodnight, Jay," I attempted to still my excited heart as I closed my eyes and moved into a comfortable position, drifting off.
