I was brought back to the ship and instructed immediately to take a shower and afterwards... Fuck my uncle, I was put in the holding cell. Wu chewed into me for a solid two hours before I was finally left to myself. I was starving, as my only meal of the day had been cut short and I had not been brought any dinner.

Jay came in the next morning, sitting awkwardly on the stool that he had brought with him.

  "Listen, Y/n," he started, sighing.

I refused to make eye contact with him. I could feel horrendous awkwardness pooling in my stomach, making me feel sick and a small bit shaky.

"You can't be doing stuff like this, okay? We want to help you."

  I nodded.

"And we know how much of a help you can be to the team but you're still a criminal-"

"Oh so you came in here just to tell me the obvious, huh?" I raised my head and made eye contact with him.

  "No-"

"You decided it would be simply hilarious to come in here and grace me by mansplaining my own freedom to me?"

  "Y/n, please."

"No! You 'please'!" I yelled, standing up. Jay, who had previously stood to stand in front of the cell, backed up as I pushed a hand between the bars and grabbed his shirt.

"You don't fucking understand what that guy's capable of! I've watched him murder guys twice your size by pushing them over! Are you an idiot? I'm trying to fucking protect you!"

Jay sighed, then unlocked the cell and pulled me out. "Y'know what? Shut up and listen to me, L/n. We have been training since we were teenagers. If you think any of us would let some old criminal boss win just because he's strong... you're dumb. Don't be dumb, okay?" His eyes softened when he saw my expression.

I lowered my head again. "I'm sorry," I said quietly as I could feel my hands begin to shake.

"Y/n, please look at me," Jay said quietly, "I need to clarify something with you."

  I didn't want to, but I did.

"I  don't want you to think that I'm only in here to tell you that you made a mistake. I came in here to see how you were feeling. And I know, you obviously aren't feeling well about getting put back in this dumbass cell, but that's not what I meant."

He placed his hands gently on the sides of my face. I couldn't read his expression, but he seemed conflicted about something. Cursing myself when I felt my cheeks heating up, I placed my hands over his.

Then I kind of awkwardly remembered what he had said to Kai on the ground.

"Y/n is not a bitch, or a skank, and you're way fucking out of line if you think that she's undeserving of any feelings I have for her."

  "Jay.." I started.

The man wasn't making eye contact, and I could, in fact, tell that he was staring at my lips. After a few seconds, my words seemed to have processed and he snapped out of the near trance-like state.

  "Yeah-Yeah?"

I sighed awkwardly, not quite knowing where to start. "So uh.. did you mean what you said last night on the ground?"

Jay chose to stay silent for a few seconds before answering.

  "Every word."

Again, I cursed myself as my cheeks heated up once again. "...Jay," I said again.

The man's face was incredibly close to my own. "Yeah?"

"May I kiss you?" I asked.

He nodded, so I placed a quick kiss against his lips, pulling back nearly immediately in embarrassment. I lowered my head as I let my gods awful blush play itself out.

Jay pulled me into a hug with my head against his chest and rested his cheek against the top of my head.

"I'm so sorry," I whispered. "I'm sorry I caused so many problems."

He gently pressed a kiss against the top of my head and ran his hands through my hair. "You've already been blaming yourself for it since last night, you don't need to apologize to me.

  I nodded.

Jay sighed, backing away from me just a little bit. "Listen, I don't think I'll be able to weasel my way into getting you back into your bedroom.."

The bedroom didn't matter to me. I just wanted to eat.

"I could care less about sleeping in an actual bedroom, but can you get me something to eat?"

Jay's eyes widened. "Wait, have you not eaten since last night?"

  I shook my head.

"Oh my gods, I'm so sorry! You stay here I'll be right back!" The man rushed out of the room.

The fear in me told me to listen to Jay and stay where I was, but I wanted to test my waters in sort, so I left the room that the holding cell was in, and walked towards the kitchen.

"Y/n?" Nya asked from behind me. I turned and nodded.

"What are you doing outside of the.."

"The quite literal jail cell?" I asked, not having quite forgiven the rest of the team for leaving me throughout the night without thinking to give me something I could eat. "Yeah, I got hungry."

Then I turned and walked away, finding Jay in the kitchen making eggo waffles.

He ignored the fact that I wasn't in the cell, placing a plate of waffles and couscous in front of me. "Here, I'm sorry it's so weird, we normally go shopping on Thursdays and... yesterday was a Thursday."

I nodded. "Yeah." Then promptly began stuffing food in my mouth.

Once I was done, I stood and washed my plate.

"So, uh.. where do we go from here?" I asked, referring to my current situation with the team, as well as the formal confessions of romantic interest that I had shared with Jay just minutes prior.

"I honestly don't know." The man seemed to understand what I meant, as a light blush crept up onto his cheeks. "What I do know is that I... I really like you. A-and I want you to feel safe enough to join our team eventually. Y'know if that's what you want."

Standing up, I moved closer to the lightning man and tilted his head- quite awkwardly, might I add- giving his a kiss on the cheek.
