The big day finally arrived for Ricardo's operation, and I was filled with nervous trepidation when I went up to the hospital to be with him with the rest of the family.
I was just hoping it would prove to be a positive result, I didn't think Ricardo would handle it too well if the operation failed. It was too unbearable to think about, so I forced myself not to dwell on it .
His parents were out in the corridor, having a talk with one of the doctor's before they took him up to the operating theatre.
I was with him, feeling a little envious because they had give him meds to help him relax before the operation, so he was fairly chilled out about the whole prospect already. Whereas my nerves were getting the better of me, and I was moving around the room adjusting the cards or the flowers to keep my mind occupied until they came to take him away to do the operation
"Will you sit down, it's making me dizzy watching you moving around so much," Ricardo ordered me with half hearted irritation
"Sorry," I apologised and came to sit next to him
"Then again, maybe it's not you, just this stuff they have given me.. I feel almost out of it already," he confessed with a small mellow smile
"I think you are probably right," I replied dryly, realising I had never seen him looked so relaxed in my life.
"Well at least now it won't be long till it is all over with, I suppose you will be glad?" I then said with an encouraging smile
"Yeah at least we will know one way or the other at last," he said "Kindda ironic don't you think?" he looked at me, still smiling a little dozily
"What?" I returned uncertainly
"Your Grandfather, marrying you to me, because he thought I would look after you. And now its turning out you could be the one looking after me" he finished with a small bitter laugh
"Well nothing is for certain yet, so no need to dwell on things like that," I replied feeling my nerves get the better of me again. I now got up to adjust his pillows in an attempt to make him a little more comfortable, "we just have to keep positive," I added, not sure if I was trying to convince him or myself.
I could consciously feel his dark eyes watching me intently, making me more nervy for some reason as I leaned over to carefully adjust the pillow a little better behind his head,
"Hey!" he then spoke up, grabbing my attention, making me meet his sudden penetrating gaze. But I was totally unprepared for his next actions as his hand grabbed my arm in a firm grip and pulled me closer towards him, then I felt his mouth, a little dry, but warm, on mine.
Surprise more than anything made me freeze momentarily, and then my first reaction was to pull away.
But his other arm came around me, holding me with surprising strength, then I felt the tip of his tongue teasingly between my lips sending a delicious tingling heat through my body, just making me want to melt against him, so that instead of pushing him away, I found I was clutching onto the hospital gown he was wearing and kissing him back
He finally released my mouth with a small sigh, then his solemn gaze steadily locked on mine, as our faces remained just few inches apart, "It's going to be alright," he then murmured.
It seemed a little odd; after all I should have been the one that was reassuring him
But I was too busy trying to recover from the effects of the kiss, and thinking about the way I had so easily responded to it. I felt the familiar heated wave flush through my treacherous body as I was trying to figure out why he had kissed me in the first place?
