"Is that your plan? Just to lock me up here?" Loki sneered cheekily through the glass plane. I continued to eye him while fiddling around with my kunai.

"Maki." I heard a familiar voice. "I hope he's not giving you much trouble." Natasha spoke with concern. I haven't been sleeping for days, wanting to keep guard on the god of mischief.

Too many lives was lost. I thought. We can't take any chances of him escaping.

"I'm fine. Thank you."

Natasha sighed. "You know, as an assassin myself I know how it's important to get the rest you need." She placed a hand on my shoulder. But I still didn't keep my eyes off Loki.

"I can take your shift if you need the sleep Maki."

"I can handle it. Thank you." Ice and coldness laced my words, but it was already a gift to Natasha that the only person I would open my mouth to was her. I understood her pain, we went through the same life.

The life of becoming an assassin.

Natasha said nothing. Or maybe she nodded. Regardless I didn't turn my back on the villain that stood before me with a big smile on his face. Manipulate me if you want. I've faced the sorrows you tend to bring me ten times worse. There was nothing to lose.

As an assassin, the person who made me knew what he was doing. He had wiped out my entire bloodline. All the friends I've made, even my long distant relatives. Gone. Just to make the best assassin out of me. Connections are the roots to failure they said. With connections and emotions, humans forget that they can be a powerful weapon to be used. And even when I was done with my training, my sensei had to kill himself.

"Each connection you've made ties a string on you, controls you like a puppet. Never let that happen. Then my life will not be in vain." He died saying those words. But I had no choice but to watch as he took his last breath. After that I had left Japan to work secretly with the US government. And that's when they had placed me under SHEILD along side the Avengers.

"Loki is manipulative, cunning and can turn the tables around unexpectedly. You are most suited for the job. I hope you can work along side them in peace. But first, what can we address you by?"

I took a pause. "Maki." I replied shortly. "Call me Maki."

The name of my sensei. Kotaro Maki.

Working together with the avengers was the one thing that bothered me.

Connections are the roots of failure.

But when I met Natasha, I knew her background from the files they had given. From then on I had only spoke to her in respect and profession.

Since the day I had kept guard on the god of mischief. He had been trying to get into my head, manipulating me by asking about my orphan background, criticising me on my skills. Those are petty insults that did nothing to me. So he had given up.

"I'm bored." Loki chuckled. "Come in here let's play a game."

I stared at him coldly. I know that he would create an illusion as soon as the door opens.

"Are you some kind of ninja?"

I just nodded shortly. It was the least I could do. I was bored as well after all but didn't show it.

Loki scoffed. "I thought those only exist in children's books."

And I thought you were just a myth about a god that fucked a horse.

"Come on darling have a bit of fun."

I closed my eyes and sighed. How annoying.

Loki gasped. It was a new reaction to him from me. "Did I struck a nerve of the mighty Ms assassin?" He smiled, thinking he has won. "I guess an orphan such as yourself hadn't experience any fun. All you assassin are the same. Your family died mind erased gruesome training. All moulded by torture and fear for their whole lives."

I stayed still. I wasn't defensive towards him. I agreed with him. Agreeing with the manipulations he was bringing was the least I could do.  But to be honest it was getting a little annoying to me, and I get easily irritated by things I couldn't control.

"That's true." I spoke to him for the first time. Loki was shocked, he hadn't expected me to open my mouth to him. He just stood there in silence.

To me, talking to him makes it easier for him to shut up. I won't get manipulated no matter how hard he tries, there was no lost in speaking.

"The brick wall finally spoke." Loki chuckled, his mischievous facade slowly falling. "Well then may I ask you what's your job here? I though only the avengers were suppose to detain me."

"My names Kotaro Maki. A highly skilled assassin from Japan. I have never failed a mission in my life." I took a small bow which shocked him. He didn't know that it was a common etiquette as a Japanese. He only got amused by me bowing towards him as a smirk formed on his lips. "You. Are my mission Loki Laufeyson. And I will not fail." I glared at him with fury.

"What beautiful eyes." Loki said sarcastically. "Truly filled with the deaths and despair of hundred and thousands of innocent people."

"I kill sinners that I'm ordered to kill. You kill for the sake of creating fear in the eyes of others just to rule. Creating fear by going on a massacre isn't how I do things."

I sat back down on my chair, playing with my kanai once again. My deed was done, he had totally kept quiet for the rest of the day.

My decisions are a straight path. They're never wrong.
