Mobius POV

I had just gotten a lecture from Renslayer about the mission Loki had botched. And apparently since I'm that variant's babysitter I've got to take the fall for it. I can't believe he would try to trick everyone after all that. Wait, I can believe it. He's the damn god of mischief why shouldn't I believe it? Maybe I just had a thought that he could be trusted once a while. Maybe I was wrong. But I still wanted to believe in him.

"You must be wondering what happened during today's mission?" Loki gave me a big smile as I walked out of Renslayer's office. I just ignored him and continued walking without an answer.

I heard his footsteps ran after me. "You see that was your first lesson about what makes a Loki. Expect, the unexpected! I-"

"Loki, just shut up!" I sighed in annoyance. "What happened to the guy I met on the elevator who said he didn't like to talk? Now I've got this one who won't stop yapping away about what makes a Loki tick!" As I finished I made a sharp turn and he trailed behind.

"But isn't that what I'm here for?"

"What you're here for, is to help me catch that variant."

"Then why were you in there sticking your neck out for me?" We stopped in front of the elevator.

"I'm giving you two choices and you can believe whatever you want. A, because I see a scared little runt in the cold and I feel sorry for him. B, because I just want to catch this guy, and I thought that you would be motivated to catch this variant because we both know that this version of you is more superior, and you~ cant~ take~ it~" I sang. Loki just smiled sarcastically and nodded.

"Very nice. It is, adorable that you'd think of such a thing." Loki reaches out to adjust my tie. The sudden contact gave me shivers down my spine, but I forced myself to act normally.

"The answer is obviously C, you like me." He winked. I was a little taken aback by the sudden tease.

I stood there mouth agape for a few seconds before regaining my voice. "Loki grow up." Was all I said back before stepping into the elevator which he also followed.

"Come on, it's C isn't it."

"Yea yea whatever Loki the choice is yours. Just don't go thinking too far ahead." Loki chuckled at my answer as we stepped out of the elevator once the doors opened.

"This is your last chance." I told him.

"Last chance on what?" He asked cluelessly. We had arrived at one of the TVA libraries where they store their files and documents neatly on every shelf.

"For not getting pruned. So here's your task of the day mister." I turned to Loki with a small smile on my face. I placed a hand on a pile on files that were already prepared on the table. "Work."

"Work?"

"Yes work. Try to find something in these files that's linked to the variant and don't hesitate to really lean into this work. Now if you'll excuse me. I'm going to go get a salad. And don't find me till you've read all the files."

***

"Mobius! Mobius!" I sighed at the sound of the person I wasn't keen on meeting at the moment.

"Hey hey I said come look for me when you've gone through ALL the files."

"The answer isn't in the file it's in the timeline." Loki took a seat as I pinched my temples, knowing what was about to come next.
