"There has to be more to this dress."
I roll my eyes as Rebekah walks out of the changing room, dressed in a designer black dress.
"There's not," I tell her.
Rebekah huffs. "So women in the 21st century dress like prostitutes, then. You know, I got dirty looks for wearing trousers," she says.
I nod.
"You wore trousers so women today could wear nothing," I say with a smile. Rebekah mutters something under her breath, a sentence that involves the word 'bitch', 'kill', and 'shut up'.
"And what is this music? It sounds like a cable car accident," Rebekah snaps at no one in particular.
"It's dance music," I reply dully. "People dance to this?" Rebekah scoffs in disbelief. I nod once more.
"Are you girls done talking?" Klaus says suddenly. "And why are you so grumpy?" Rebekah says, clearly annoyed.
"I needed one thing from you for my witch to find out why my hybrids are dying, one thing," Klaus says, standing up. "Your necklace. And you lost it."
"I didn't lose it. It's just been missing for 90 years," Rebekah yells, throwing her hands up in exasperation. Then she glances over at Stefan, who seems to be lost in his own thoughts. "So what do you think?" Rebekah asks him. Stefan glances up at her dress. "I like it," he replies.
"What? I said I like it," Stefan says, when Rebekah rolls her eyes.
"I can always tell when you're lying, Stefan," Rebekah says, walking back into the dressing room.
"Nice one. Good work," I tell Stefan sarcastically.
Stefan scoffs. "Your boyfriend is the one who pulled the dagger out of her," Stefan grumbles. "Don't call him that," I snap in a warning voice.
Stefan sighs. "All right. I'm going to get some fresh air," Stefan says as he exits the store.
"What?" I say to Klaus when I see the curious look on his face. "Follow him," he orders. I blink.
"Do I need to recharge your memories for you? I'm not your little servant girl anymore, Klaus, I stopped taking orders from you three hundred years ago," I say to him, crossing my arms.
"Follow him," Klaus repeats. I stare at him in disbelief, then stomp out of the store angrily.
But I'm glad I did listen to Klaus- because if I hadn't, it would have been Klaus who followed Stefan, and Klaus who ended up overhearing a conversation between the infamous ripper and his doppelganger ex-girlfriend.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I ask Katherine. My great grandmother looks me up and down. "Well, if it isn't my little savior. You two look chummy. Are you two besties now?" Katherine says, looking in turn at me, then at Stefan.
"You know, if he finds out you're in Chicago, you're dead," Stefan says to her, stating the obvious.
"Happy to know that you still care. So tell me if I'm wrong... Rebekah's necklace that Klaus is looking for... That's the necklace that you gave to Elena," Katherine says with a mischievous smile.
"Goodbye, Katherine," I say, grabbing Stefan's arm and trying to pull him away. Katherine shakes her head. "Hey, hey. Wait. You're up to something, tell me," Katherine says, grabbing Stefan by his shoulder.
Stefan sighs. "They don't know where the necklace is. I just have to keep them from figuring it out. I have it all under control," he says. Katherine opens her mouth to scoff at him, but I beat her to it. "Please, tell me you have a better plan than that," I say.
"Of course not," Katherine tells me, rolling her eyes. "Come on, Stefan. You're not the diabolical type. Whatever you're planning, it's not going to work," Katherine says to Stefan.
"Well, if the most diabolical woman I know can't seem to figure it out, then I must be doing something right," Stefan says, beginning to walk away. Katherine smiles at the ground.
"I forgot. You're bad now," she says. Stefan stops walking and turns back around to face her.
"Don't get too cocky. Klaus is smarter than you, he's smarter than everyone. And I've heard about that sister. Be careful. She'll ruin you," Katherine says, raising her eyebrow.
"Happy to know you still care," Stefan says, walking away.
I turn to face Katherine. "Do you have any idea what I had to go through after letting you go? Out of all the places in the world, you just had to come here?" I ask her. Katherine rolls her eyes.
"Please, Klaus and Elijah aren't the only ones with informants scattered everywhere. I heard what happened to you, and I know you're exaggerating. You and I both know the Mikaelson brothers could have done far worse to you..."
"And they probably would have, were they both not head over heels in love with you," Katherine says.
I blink.
"What?" I say. That theory is too unbelievable that it actually makes me want to laugh.
"Oh please, don't act like you don't know it. Elijah's clearly still obsessed with you, or he would have killed you right away in New York. And as for Klaus... Exactly how many times has he let you get away with killing him, again? The incident of 1782 seems to prove that he's unforgiving to anyone else who snaps his neck every other month," Katherine says, raising her eyebrows.
I scoff. "I'm sorry, but were you the one who had to spend four hundred years by his side? Do you honestly think you know Klaus Mikaelson better than I do? He is not- he's- he's not in love with me," I say.
Katherine shakes her head. "You may have spent four centuries with him, but you didn't spend the worse half of a millennium trying to figure out his every weakness, Helena," Katherine says, spitting my name out sharply.
"Consider this piece of information a thank you gift for setting me free," Katherine says, as she turns on her heels.
"Klaus is in love with you. Now go use that to your advantage. You're a Petrova, after all," Katherine says, walking away.
I know it's been a long time since I last updated, but I had to study for my exams (which I failed, btw)- anyways, I'm back now, and I'll be going back to updating regularly!
