Present Day
"Thank you for coming," Elena says when we reach the Salvatore Boarding House. Klaus nods, and together, he and I step inside side by side.
"I trust you have news of Stefan?" Klaus asks. "I couldn't find him," Elena says- or rather, lies. I can hear her heartbeat give a little skip when she says this sentence. "But I have something else," Elena tells us.
She leads us down the stairs, and into the cellar, where Rebekah lies on the ground, daggered.
"My poor sister. I can't turn my back on her for a moment," Klaus says.
"You have Rebekah. A deal is a deal," Elena says.
Klaus looks up at her. "The life of my sister in exchange for your brother? I'd say that's a bargain. Consider him spared," Klaus says, spreading his arms wide in a sarcastic gesture.
Elena hesitates. "You should know I was the one that daggered her. When she wakes, she'll come after me," she says.
"I can control Rebekah. Besides," Klaus says, as he walks over towards Rebekah's body, "I still need your help finding Stefan."
"I told you I don't know where he is," Elena says. I watch as Klaus yanks the silver dagger out of Rebekah's chest.
"You're lying, Elena," I say.
"Fortunately," Klaus says to her as he walks over towards me, "You have no shortage of loved ones. If I don't find my family, the question you should be asking yourself is who's going to die next!" Klaus says, smiling at Elena's expression.
"Bonnie? Caroline? Damon? It's only a matter of time before Stefan gives them up," I say with a matching wicked smile.
Elena glares at me, she's more mad at me than she is at Klaus, of course she is. She knew Klaus was the evil one from the start, but perhaps she had been holding out on the hope that I would choose to side with her.
But why would I? I'm at the top of the food chain right now. Why should I bother to care for any of her friends when they benefit me in no possible way? I stood around for centuries while the Mikaelsons killed and tortured every enemy they came across, and for centuries, I didn't care.
The only reason Elena's life is different from everyone else's is because she's the one purpose in my life I have been working for, and without the symbolic presence of her with me in the world, my life would have no meaning, just like how Elijah lost his very soul and mind after believing that Klaus had truly gone past the point of no return.
"Stefan doesn't care about me anymore," Elena spits out. "You made sure of that. You turned him into a monster. Now he's your problem," she says as she turns around to leave.
"Oh," Elena says, turning back around to face Klaus, "And just so you know, I'm not the only one that Rebekah wants dead. She knows what you did to your mother. She knows that you killed her. You can let yourself out."
She glances at the shocked expression on my face.
"Don't even start," Klaus says bitterly when I stare at him.
"What do you mean, don't even- Klaus!" I shout exasperatedly. "You killed your mother? And you made all of us believe that Mikael-"
"It doesn't matter anymore!" Klaus shouts in a cold and menacing tone. I try to search for any hint of remorse in his eyes... But this is Klaus Mikaelson. He doesn't feel regret.

"Here we are, Rebekah," Klaus says to Rebekah's still unconscious body, once we enter the mansion he's been renovating. "Home sweet home. Only took a thousand years... And to think I was counting on you being here with me. But that's all ruined now, isn't it?" he says sadly. I notice one of Rebekah's fingers move a little.
