True to my word, I head over towards City Hall, where it seems like the mayor is hosting a fund-raising event.
"You know, Carol, when I think of a mayor, I think of an old fuddy-duddy, but you really have changed my perception!" Klaus says to Carol Lockwood.
I don't know what Klaus is doing here or why he's talking to the mayor, but I'm not going to let him stop me from getting my revenge on Stefan. If I have to kill Carol to achieve my goal, I'll do so without hesitation.
"Oh, thank you!" Carol laughs.
I suddenly notice a certain black haired vampire standing on the other side of the room. I decide to sit tight for now, for I'm curious as to what Damon Salvatore is doing here.
"Look at what the cat dragged in," Damon says, sauntering over towards Klaus. "Nice vest," Damon nods.
"Thank you very much, good to see you, Damon. Carol and I were discussing about whether you would be the other big benefactor," Klaus smiles.
"What do you say Damon? Klaus has made a very generous pledge. You know how we're chomping at the bit to begin the renovation," Carol says.
Damon shakes his head. "Carol, don't take this the wrong way, but do you realize that you've been kissing the ass of an immortal hybrid who ruined your son's life?" he asks.
I snort, and several eyes turn my way, including Klaus's.
"Oh, come now. Some would say that I saved him from all that nasty full moon business. I've never had to go through it myself more than twice, to be honest, but still, I'm very sympathetic," Klaus says with a feigned innocence that Carol Lockwood somehow buys.
"Klaus has promised to protect Tyler, Damon. And our town," she says.
"From who? His hybrids are the one the town needs protection from," Damon scowls.
"Well, I'd have no use for them if your brother would kindly return my family," Klaus says.
"Not gonna happen," Damon replies.
Klaus was right about before, he and I both have problems with stubbornness. But what he failed to mention was that he and I are perhaps the two most stubborn people in the entire history of the world. Damon is playing a very dangerous game here, continuing to press against Klaus's nerve by replying with one sarcastic comment after the other.
"That's what I thought, which is why I've come to an agreement with the Mayor," Klaus says. "You and the Council stay out of my hair, I stay out of yours. Your town gets protected, my hybrids get left alone and everybody will be happy. All you have to do is to get Stefan to stop decapitating my friends."
"Please Damon," Carol says, "Just get your brother under control, or the Council will be forced to take action against him."
"You've gotta be kidding me!" Damon shouts.
"Oh, come on, mate," Klaus smiles. "Give peace a chance."

"What, having fun at my misery?" Damon grumbles as he walks over towards me.
I don't make any effort to hide my amused smile. "Where is that brother of yours, anyway?" I ask him.
"I'd tell you, but I'm pretty sure it was you who stabbed a dart through my hand this morning, so," Damon shrugs.
"I've wanted to ask you something for quite some time now," I say, leaning against the wall with a drink in my hand, "When did you remember?"
