 1926, Chicago.

"She died more than half a century ago, but... Her name was Katherine Pierce." These words echoed throughout my mind.

Katherine Pierce. Katherine Pierce was dead.

How had the word of her death not reached us yet? All of Klaus's informants had been telling him that Katherine was hiding out somewhere in Eastern Asia. How was it, that even after sixty whole years, Klaus still hadn't realized his old enemy was gone for good?

"You say she died in Mystic Falls?" I said to Stefan casually, as if this whole situation wasn't about to flip my world upside down. Stefan looked up. "Katherine? Yeah," he answered. I nodded.

"I'm afraid this is goodbye now, love," I said decidedly. Stefan frowned. "You're leaving?" he asked. "Yes... And hopefully for good," I said. Stefan slowly stood up. "Then how about I treat you to one last feast before you go?" he asked me. I smiled. "I hear the Millennium Park is crowded this time of night," I whispered into his ear.

Stefan smiled.

"Actually, by feast, I was meaning something more like... This," he said, as his fangs bared. His teeth slowly sunk into my neck, and I gasped. For some reason, the sensation was immensely pleasurable. I could feel my warm blood trickling down my shoulder as Stefan fed off me, slowly and gently, in such an... Artistic way.

He raised his wrist up to me. I grabbed it, and sunk my own teeth in. He pressed me up against the wall, and there was a whirl of supernatural speed. Now, it was I who was feeding off his neck and he, my wrist.

It took me about ten more seconds to realize a very important thought- 'Bloody hell.'

I suddenly pushed Stefan away. "What?" he said. I shook my head. "I- I can't do this, blood sharing is a ridiculously intimate thing- I'm with Elijah, Stefan, I can't-" "Elijah? Who's he?" Stefan asked, right before sinking his teeth into my neck again. "Klaus's older brother, he's out of town for a for the moment, but he'll be returning any day now- Stefan, stop," I said, unable to push him away at the thought of accidentally hurting him.

"So? He's not here now, is he?" Stefan said, his eyes gleaming in hunger and passion.

That did it.

Stefan shouted out as I kicked him so hard, he ended up flying across half the room before landing on the ground with a thud. "You may have abandoned your emotions, Salvatore, but I haven't. Elijah and I made a promise to each other, and god help me if I allow some seventy three year old delinquent to ruin that bond between us," I spat out.

"God- fine, I'm sorry," Stefan panted out, clenching at his gut where I had kicked him. "Can I go now?" he said, glancing at me warily. "No," I replied. "You're going to help me with something first."

"So this is it, then? This is the night we're finally to be free of him?" Rebekah said, her eyes twinkling in anticipation. "Leave if you will, Rebekah, but I am staying," Elijah's voice said over the phone. "Bloody hell, Elijah- you can't be serious! You're seriously planning on staying with Nik? Out of all of us, you're the one who most deserves a break from him!" "He's my brother, Rebekah, and unlike you, for me, that means something," he said.

"What about Helena? You two are in love, aren't you? How the bloody hell are you supposed to stay together if you stay here with Nik and she leaves the country with me?" Rebekah shouted into the phone. Elijah didn't answer, and I didn't make a comment, either. This thought had been in the back of our minds since Rebekah had first come up with this plan last year, but... I sighed.

"I'm not coming with you, Rebekah," I said. "What?" both Rebekah and Elijah said. "I'm not going to go with you. I'm staying with Elijah," I repeated once more.

"Are you out of your bloody mind?" Rebekah yelled. "Stay here with Elijah? You know for a fact that the second Nik learns of my disappearance, he'll dagger Elijah. And then there will be no one left to protect you from his wrath- he will kill you," Rebekah said.

I ran a hand through my hair. "What's love without a few obstacles in its path?" I said lightheartedly, whilst being frightened inside.

"You can't be serious," Rebekah breathed. "I am," I replied. I had no idea what would happen if I went through with this plan, but... If I died, at least it would mean I had died fighting for love. That wasn't such a horrible way to go. I had lived a long life. Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad thing to finally move on.

"Rebekah, promise me you'll take Marie with you. Promise to keep her safe," I told her. Rebekah blinked. "You're insane. You both are," she said into the phone. Then she turned to me. "Fine," she spat. "Of course I'll take care of her," Rebekah said, somewhat reluctantly. I smiled. I knew how much she cared for the girl... Marie would be safe with Rebekah.

"Elijah, when are you getting back?" Rebekah asked. "In three hours or so. You should leave before then," Elijah said to his sister. Rebekah smiled. "I still think you're bloody stupid, but... I love you, brother," she said. "I love you too, Rebekah," Elijah replied.

"And thus comes the end of always and forever," Rebekah said, wiping away the single tear that trickled down her face. "Come. Let's put this plan into action, shall we?" she said to me.
