Intimacy

My eyes fly open, and contrary to what I had been expecting, I realize I'm still on the concrete ground, lying prostrate in front of the hotel's doors. It doesn't feel possible- but it's true. The unending series of hallucinations barely lasted longer than a couple of seconds.

I hear people screaming, shouting at each other to call 911. My entire body is aching, I haven't been in this much pain since... Well, ever. All the bones in my body, apart from my neck, have broken, and no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to lift even a finger.

The hotel door flies open and Klaus comes running out. At least, I think it's Klaus. I can't know for sure, because my sight is all blurred for some reason.

People continue to scream hysterically as Klaus kneels down next to me.

"What the bloody hell were you thinking?" he shouts. The closest I get to replying to him is letting a strange, rough moan escape my throat.

He bites down on his wrist, and force feeds his blood to me, ignoring the crowd of humans that watch him. I already know his hybrids are closing off the area, getting ready to compel every single one of them. For the past twenty years, Klaus hadn't bothered with wiping away the memories of the humans who have seen him, because who would even believe them? But now that Mikael is free, Klaus needs to be careful in cleaning up his tracks.

I cough as I choke on Klaus's blood. Ignoring my shouts of protest, he forces the blood down my throat even more strongly, causing me to gag.

I eventually begin to feel my bones healing. My breath becomes steadier, and less raspy. I manage to move my neck around a little, and see that I am lying in a pool of my own blood.

"I'm going to move you," Klaus tells me, and I scream as I feel a horrible pain in my still broken legs as he lifts me up. The world sways- but whether that's the pain getting to my head or Klaus beginning to walk with me in his arms, I can't tell.

"What happened?" Klaus says, setting me down on the sofa in the hotel lobby. The concierge begins to run towards us, but one of Klaus's hybrids stops him.

"Hm?" I mumble, clenching my teeth in pain as Klaus snaps my leg back into place.

"What happened?" Klaus repeats.

"My bite shouldn't have affected you that way. Werewolf venom poisons vampires slowly. Not once in my long lifetime have I heard of such a fast response to it," he says.

I open my mouth, but instead of answering, I puke all over the floor. Klaus vamp-races out of the way to avoid it, and I begin to cough blood out along with the puke.

"Finished?" Klaus says exasperatedly. I nod, for I actually do feel much better.

"Now answer me. Why did the werewolf venom work so quickly on you?" Klaus asks me.

"How the hell should I know?" I snap, spitting out the last of the bitter taste in my mouth. Klaus looks at me like he wants to argue, but instead he sighs. He beckons for his hybrid to push the concierge towards us. "Don't kill him," Klaus says, right before he throws the human to me.

Black veins erupt throughout my face as I dig my fangs into the human's neck. Warm blood fills my mouth, allowing energy to flow back into my body. Once I'm done feeding, Klaus heals the human with his blood and I wipe his memory.

The whole 'healing and wiping' process has always been sort of a problem for me, because I take a daily dose of vervain. If I heal a human using my blood, they'll have vervain in their system, so I've always had someone else heal my victims on the occasions that I want them to live.

"Ready to hit the road again?" Klaus says to me.

I notice that he hasn't said a single word about what happened before- us feeding on one another may not seem like a big deal to one of Klaus's stupid hybrids, but that's because they don't know exactly what it means to share blood. It's an act based on trust and intimacy, and even that idiot Damon Salvatore can easily tell that the relationship between me and Klaus has only ever been anything but that.

I don't know why, but I follow in Klaus's example and don't say anything about the previous incident. Instead I ask, "Where are we going?"

"Portland," Klaus replies.

"Portland?" I repeat with a frown. I'm about to ask him why when I figure out the answer myself.

"Let me guess. More hybrids," I sigh.

"It's like you read my mind," Klaus smiles.
