If only it all, wasn't so complicated,
Maybe we could have a love that wasn't so jaded.
If only we weren't so scared of what it all could lead to,
Maybe we could have all that we need to.

But we never did conquer our feelings did we?
Pushed them inside and smiled with glee.
So worried about what would happen if we took the road not taken,
That we took our feelings forsaken.

I never thought a day would come,
When I'd be hoping for something that'd either make or break it all.
You never thought a day would come,
When you'd wait for me to realise that not everything would lead to our fall.

I had feelings for you, and that'll never change,
But our friendship isn't something that I'll ever wage.
"The road not taken" could destroy it all,
And without our friendship, do I really have anything at all?

I know you'd say "we have chance in the future",
But taking chances has never been in my nature.
So I know this might hurt, but it's better for both,
As it'll prevent a heartbreak that both of us would loath.

I'll always love you as my best friend and that'll never change,
So I'll suppress my feelings, so that our friendship won't break.
Playing games with our friendship isn't a path I'll range,
So I'll let you go and in our love I won't partake.

I liked my best friend who likes me too but we're both not at a good position personally & I value our friendship too much so I'll let go of it! :)
