Title: Nightmares Haunt You
Kuai ran and ran, kept running but It felt so endless in the darkness but there was no one except himself and the endless darkness. When all of the sudden, he stumbled upon nothing and he groaned when he made contact with the ground and as he was about to push himself up from the fall, he was falling again, crashed to a metal floor.
Without hesitation, he was grabbed by multiple hands and a bright shining light blinded him for a while. More panic feeling washed over him when sounds of machines triggered his past memory. "Proceed the Cybernation process". No, no, no, not this again, no, this isn't real, he and Hanzo was sure the Cyber Lin Kuei was terminated, thanks to Cyrax's help, why is it back?
Meanwhile, Hanzo was suddenly feeling awaken to movement besides him, was Kuai okay? He slowly opened his eyes and turned to the other side and he was now more awakened by the sight of ice getting thicker in the bedroom, walls were slowly frozen and Kuai, he was crying, flinching, sweating, he was about to lose control of his powers at this rate. "Kuai, what is wrong? Kuai! Wake up!".
The younger man gasped as he jolted up, forcing his body upwards, as if he was releasing himself from some sort of restrains, hands were stretched forward, shooting ice shards to the walls. Hanzo was speechless by the sight, he knew this was all too familiar yet tonight was different, something had made Kuai like this, but he was not certain what had caused this. Hanzo quickly grabbed the other man's hands and create warmth, trying to calm him down, judging by the breathing pace right now, it was indeed bad. "Kuai? It's okay, I am here. You're safe with me, I'm here". Trying not to give in to another attack, Kuai managed to recollect himself, turned to look at Hanzo who had all the concerns and questions written all over his face.
Once he had fully calmed down, sort of, Hanzo could not help rubbing both of his hands against his, making sure the physical contact helps. "Are you alright? I know you had frequent nightmares but, was it about your brother? Your Clan? Anything that I could –"
"No! I... I'm sorry, I just, it was too vivid, please, can we not talk about this? I apologize, I will clean up the mess tomorrow, I'm sorry for waking you up like this". Kuai wiped off the sweat and tears and laid back , facing away from Hanzo, hoping the older man thinks he's sleeping but he couldn't, why would he? After that, sleep was never an option. Hanzo sighed silently, his heart hurt witnessing all this, he couldn't pressure the other man to talk to him about what had happened, but right now, all he could do is provide some comfort, even if it si the minimum effort.
Next few weeks come soon and Hanzo was assigned to lead the Special Forces on a mission regarding the recent Outworld demons trying to attack their recent teleport portal between Earthrealm and the other realms. With research and everything, it was estimated they could finish everything by a month. Hanzo wanted to decline, more like reluctant but Kuai had insisted he was going to be okay and that moment Hanzo knew, Kuai was putting on a façade.
Those nightmares had been affecting the Cyromancer a lot lately but Kuai was not open about it still. "Stay safe, I can't handle another mishap with you again, especially last time, I really thought you had –"
"Shush, I know what you meant. I know promises are sometimes difficult to keep but I'm making sure I'm coming back to you, always, injured or not. Now, enough about me, are you going to be alright? Your lack of sleep worries me, even you look very tired, and you even have more paperwork needed to be done for both of our clans".
Kuai could only sighed, he admits, with the workload, he rather have that than going back to sleep and experience that nightmare again. "It's okay, I will be fine. Don't let me be your distraction during the mission". Hanzo hummed, "More like the fster the mission ends, the faster both of us will be in bed". Kuai slapped Hanzo on the arm, making both men enjoy a small laugh session between each other, when they heard, the portal had started to initiate. One more hug and a small peck on the lips, Kuai let out a small wave bye and watched the team dispatched. Once it closes again, Kuai sighed, exhaustion again feel more heavier on him, at this point, he was dragging his whole weight back to his room, maybe take a small rest, before starting his work. Unfortunately, that small rest does not involve sleep. Kuai will try his best not to sleep until nightmares start or tries not to sleep if that was possible for him of course, until there was a knock on his door.
