I run my hands through the racks of dresses on their hangers in the clothing store that I was currently at with Brenna. She was looking through some options for her Prom dress on Friday with Everett.
Honestly I think their actually really cute together. Especially when she wouldn't shut up about how sweet Everett was when he asked her to be his date. So much so, that it was becoming annoying.
My mom's death was no longer the talk of my school now that Prom was literally just two days away. People were too excited to care anymore. Not that I did.
"What about this one?"
Brenna sashays out of the dressing room wearing a red, sequenced, mermaid dress that pooled at her feet. The dark, red colour compliments her chocolate skin beautifully, not to mention that it clung to her like a second skin, showing off her curves.
She looked breathtaking.
"You look great," I said with a forced smile, trying and failing to sound excited.
Brenna, of course, notices.
She squints her eyes at me, before coming off the raised platform making her way to me. "Are you upset because Seth hasn't asked you to Prom yet?" I sighed. That wasn't the reason my mind was elsewhere, but I nodded anyway. The less she knows the better.
"Oh honey," she pouts, giving me a look of pity that was far from what I needed. "I loved the idea of you guys keeping things on the down low before, but now, not so much."
I shake my head chuckling. If only she knew...
"It's okay, Brenna. I'm not too upset about it," I shrug, giving her a small smile. "If we want people to think we're done for then this is just something that we have to do." Besides, it's not like I was crazy about going to Prom in the first place. Sure, it would have been nice to get that experience with Seth, but we both agreed to forgo Prom and hang back at my place for the night. Honestly that sounded way more appealing.
"You sure? Because I can slap some sense into him for you." She says in all seriousness.
I laugh, knowing that she would honestly do it if I wanted her to. "I'm sure, Brenna. Thank you though." She hums and walks back to the changing room. A couple minutes later she comes out wearing the clothes she came in, holding the red dress up grinning from ear to ear.
"I've found a winner."

I make a spread by my bed with snacks, juice and barbecue chicken wings, waiting on Seth to arrive. It's officially Prom night, and I'm sure people are either getting ready, or already on their way to school for the dance.
I, however, am making sure I have everything set and ready for when Seth arrives for our cozy night together. Just when I'm about to get some more pillows out the closet, the door bell rings.
Already knowing it's Seth, I hurriedly make my way downstairs and to the door throwing it open. I jump into his arms the minute I see him, taking him by surprise.
He chuckles, pulling my legs around his waist and coming inside. He closes the door with his foot before leaning against it. "Damn, you missed me that much?"
"Yes." I said, being completely honest.
I look into his eyes, feeling like the worst person ever with all the crap I've brought into his life. I know that he made the decision to stick by me through everything, but my talk with Dimitri a week ago has me thinking that maybe we're not being realistic with each other at all. Despite what we may feel for each other.
