A/N at the end of the story, IMPORTANT!!!!!
I could feel Pony's eyes on me. Why is he staring at me? Is there something in my hair, or on my face? I stood up from the couch, and was about to walk into the kitchen, when someone picks me up in a hug.
"You're alright!" It was Steve. I figured he would turn into Soda eventually. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon.
"Yea, why wouldn't I be?" He set me down on my feet, and looked at me.
"I don't know, Soda called my house earlier, worried that you weren't home or something like that" he replied, scratching the back of his head. I smiled.
"And did you get worried, too?"
"Maybe..." he responded, smiling a bit. I chuckled and hugged him tightly. He returned the hug. "Say, is there any chocolate cake left?" I pulled back and looked up at him.
"Nice way to kill the mood, dude" I said. He smiled bigger, and headed for the kitchen. I looked at Pony, who was watching tv. Well, if I want things to go back to normal, I should make the first move. I jumped on, catching him off guard.
"What the-?" I laughed, seeing how much that surprised him.
"Hi" I said. "What're you doing?" He motioned towards the Tv.
"Watching tv" he replied.
"That's boring, let's go out" I said. He cocked an eyebrow. "What?" He smirked.
"Who gave you too much Candy?" I chuckled.
"Oh, Ponyboy, you are something. C'mon, I want to go to the park" I urged. He sighed.
"Okay, fine" he responded.
"Yay!" I cheered, getting up and grabbing his hand, and dragging him behind me. "I'll race you" I challenged.
"Okay" he replied. I smiled.
"Just don't get upset when I beat you" I said. After that, we took off. Pony was faster than me, but I still gave it my all. We were half way there, and he was still ahead of me. I was huffing already. Gad, how does that boy keep on going, without even slowing down.
Before I knew it, we arrived. I stopped right in front of Pony, He was perfectly fine. He wasn't out of breathe, not even a bit. I, on the other hand, was bent over, still huffing.
"How do you... do that?" He shrugged. From running and heavy breathing, I was ready to pass out. I let myself fall back onto the ground. It hurt, but I didn't care, I was resting.
"Are you okay?" Pony chuckled. I shook my head.
"I'm out od breath" I replied. He held out his hand to me, and pulled me to my feet. We walked over to the fountain, and sat down on the ledge.
"Hey, Mary, why don't you go to school?" I lifted an eyebrow at him.
"Are you nuts? I'm not going back to school" I replied, using a joking tone. He cracked a smile.
"I'm serious, we can have the same classes, if I just talk with the principle" he offered.
"I don't know" I said.
"Can you at least think about it?" I nodded with a smile. He returned to smile. I turned and looked out at the sun that was setting behind the trees. There was clouds from earlier, which made it all the most beautiful. I sighed happily. "Don't you just love the sunsets?" I turned to Pony, only to find him staring at me. I laughed, since he seemed lost just looking at me. "Pony?"
"Yea?" He snapped back. I laughed again. "What happened?" I shook my head.
"Nothing" I replied. He cocked an eyebrow, probably still lost. Wonder why he was staring at me. Just remembering it, made a smile spread on my face.
