Everything around me was spinning and spinning. It wouldn't stop. What's going on? Then I heard it, a faint voice.
"Mary!" It yelled. Was that Ponyboy? I walked closer and closer to the voice, hearing it getting louder and louder. I have to open my eyes, I have to. For Ponyboy, for him!
Slowly, I began to regain consciousness. All I could see, was white. A bright white. It surrounded me, like as if a sheet was placed over me. But, there was also a figure. It was looking down at me, but I couldn't make out who it was. My eyes were open a little for a while, before thy closed again.
"Do you think she's waking up?" That voice, I knew that voice. It was Ponyboy!
"Shoot Pony, she's got to, I don't want to loose her yet" Soda cried.
"She's my niece, I don't want her to go either" Cyndy aslo cried.
"She was pretty cool, even though she can't take a joke all that well, I still want her to stay" Two-Bit joined in. It touched my heart that the gang already cared about me, and didn't want me to die.
"I've only talked to her for a while, but still, she can't leave yet" Steve said.
"Y'all heard the doctor, guys, if she don't wake up in 5 minutes, well... there's nothing else they can do" Darry stated. What? But I'm okay! I don't want to die. No, please don't let me die, god, please!
"She can't go, Darry, she's just 13, she can't" Pony fought.
"Pony, she's been unconscious for three weeks, if it happens, it happens" he replied, trying to soothe Pony. I tried my best to move my hand, but it wouldn't. I could feel tears sliding down my cheeks.
"Look, she's crying" someone pointed out. I could feel everybody's eyes on me. Suddenly, someone grabbed my hand, and held it tightly.
"Please wake up, Mary, please" Pony softly pleaded. I have to fight this, I have to. Then, the door opened and closed. I could hear footsteps coming towards me.
"No, please don't!" My aunt's screaming was drowning my ears. Was it the doctor?
"It's time, guys" a deep voice said. I could hear some people sniffling and crying. C'mon Mary, move, please move! My head kept on screaming and screaming those words out. I have to! For Pony! I concentrated, and felt my finger moving a bit. I kept on trying and trying. If I leave, will Pony end up with Cherry? Oh, hell nah, I'ma fucking move. With that thought circulating my head, I moved my arms, and I could feel my voice coming back to me.
"N-n-n-o" I stammered, my voice so low that it sounded like a whisper. "D-d-o-n't." I could feel everything stop for a moment. Then, I did it. I broke through. My eyes slowly opened up. As soon as my vision cleared up, I saw the whole gang standing around me, the doctor was next to the machine that kept me alive.
"Mary?" I turned to my aunt, who was being held by Dally. Her eyes were red and puffy.
"Aunt Cyndy" I replied.
"Mary, You're alright!" Everybody gave me a big hug, nearly hugging me to death.
"Can't.. breathe" I said. That's when they pulled back.
"Sorry, we're just... you're alive" Soda tried to explain. Clear as daylight, I could tell he was crying as well. My eyes shifted over to Pony, who was standing there, looking at me with a gleam in his eyes, telling me that he was really happy to see me alright. I nearly blushed when he smiled at me. God, what is that boy doing to me? I looked around for a moment, before realizing I was in the hospital. The doctor was looking at me.
"Glad you finally woke up" he said. I just smiled. "I'll get you something to eat." With that, he was off. Now, it was only the gang and I.
"Hey guys" I said.
"Hey Mary, how you feeling?" I looked at Darry, who had a look of concern in his eyes.
"Okay" I replied. Everybody's eyes were on me. Steve was standing next to Soda, looking tensed up. Dally was hugging my aunt Cyndy from behind. Darry was next to me, and Pony was on the other side. Two-Bit stood between Soda and Dally. "So, how long have I been... unconscious?"
"3 weeks" Pony responded.
"Oh, but, how?"
"When the Soc. stabbed you, you just fell to the floor. Doc said you lost a lot of blood, and that there was a small chance you would live" Soda explained.
"W-were y'all worried?"
"Of course we were" Cyndy said. I looked down. The last thing I wanted, was to worry the guys, and my aunt.
"And the Doc also mentioned something else" Darry said, breaking the silence that filled the room. I looked up into his worry filled eyes. "You're anorexic." My eyes widen and my heart stopped for a moment. What the hell? How'd the Doc find out? My throat began to get dry, and I could feel the sweat forming on my forehead.
"Oh" I replied. It was all I could think of saying. I couldn't just break down and explain myself.
"Why didn't you tell us?" I turned to face Sodapop. At this point, I wanted to crawl into a hole and hide from the world. I could feel everybody's eyes on me. What do I say? What can I say? Oh, I was just a pussy and didn't to tell y'all cause I'll just feel even more insecure about myself? With every second that passed, I could feel it getting even more intense.
"I-I didn't want y'all to worry bout me" I responded in a low voice. For a moment, everything stood still. They know why, I can just feel it. Then, the whole gang smiled.
"It's nice of you to do that, but we could help you" Darry said. I looked up at him.
"Another thing, it would cost money for me to go to therapy and stuff like that. I just didn't want y'all to think of me as a... a trouble" I added.
"Shoot, you'll never be a trouble to us, no matter what" he said. I smiled. Today, my life begins.
